Never played this. I hated XBX and XBC2. But everyone says this one is actually good. What does it do that's better than these two piles of steaming hot doodoo?
Never played this. I hated XBX and XBC2. But everyone says this one is actually good...
good dub so you dont hate the characters. the story starts good and stays solid unlike X which doesnt have a story and 2 which got decent 60 hours in. the combat has less bloat, simple enough to be fun but still engaging. best soundtrack out of the 3, it doesnt even come close
>stays solid
quality falls after sword valley and plummets after Mechonis and doesn't really redeem itself until after the final boss.
It's basically the same
it becomes generic and predictable, but never outright bad, unlike 2 which starts off awful and doesnt pick up for more than a days worth of playing it.
It turns into your standard-fare jrpg story by the end of it, but it's well paced so the dumb cliches don't show their ugly head until late in the game and by then you've already played enough to like it.
2 is whatever in the early phases, it's not awful, just slow. 2 spends more time getting you invested in the world, there are more places where people live and more diversity in those places, there's a political aspect that 1 lacks.
2 has the richest worldbuilding, X has the best world from a gameplay perspective and probably would have had the best worldbuilding if Takahashi could have sat down and done everything he wanted with it since he basically wrote an entire book. But that book's worth of shit will probably get spun out into the next iteration of perfect works in some way.
If you hated them, then you won't like this one either
2 is a shitty Tales of clone with worse everything
Do you care more about the story or the gameplay user?
Both in equal capacity. I really can't get into a game anymore unless it has top notch story and gameplay.
thats 1 then. X and 2 are gameplay extremes, with either no story or a bad one. 1 has less in depth combat, but the story blows away X and 2
>What it does better than X:
More story focused.
>What it does better than 2:
The UI isn't complete horseshit, early and mid-game battles are faster and more active, there's no gacha.
In short, the game is fun, quotable, and memorable. The wii version still looks great in game from a distance, which is insane, and the music sets the mood for the whole game when you boot it up.
>top notch story and gameplay.
I'm extremely curious about what games you consider to have that.
the setting and the music ALONE make this game one of the most original things to come out in the last 10 years.
If you didn't like XCX or XC2 even remotely, you will probably not like XC1. That said, it's my favorite of the three. Best aesthetic / story / OST / characters, without a doubt. Visions are such a fun mechanic that added a lot to the game for me personally (I didn't do many side quests, and was criminally underlevled; I spent the majority of every fight in constant "this character will die in twelve seconds" mode, and it made everything intense as shit).
>stays solid
I'd disagree with that but most people won't care.
The best thing I can say about XB1 is that it's well designed to welcome newcomers in.
The pacing in the first 2/3 is good, the combat and progression are straightforward and the voice acting makes characters and writing that are pretty simple more exciting than they otherwise might be
2 isn't bad in its early phase so much as the voice acting is at it's worst. But writing wise, it's fine
this game is gonna suck in handheld. going from stick to d pad is a fucking awful feeling on the joycons, this is gonna be more awkward than 3ds was
It's a lot more straightforward and simple, for good and ill. But the one main thing it does better, without debate, over the other two is storytelling: it's presentation and pacing are top-notch and the directing in cutscenes and voice-acting is superb.
The ending is pretty hollow but ultimately you'll still be attached to characters by the time you get there.
It goes down easy
If you hated XC2 then it's a 50/50 you'll like this one.
>best soundtrack of the three
2/mitsuda > 1/shimomura
>sub-720p
>definitive
Haha...
it was like 480p on the wii so
And then 4k on PC. This will only be playable when Yuzu gets to a point where it can play it at full speed.
agreed, fuck nintenshart hardware
i agree with this. the first part of XB1 is the best storytelling in the series, but XC2 is far more consistent and better paced throughout. XCX's story was just garbage after the admittedly interesting set-up
It has better voice acting, and the combat is more interesting so you're less likely to get bored. XC2 wants you to dump all of your skills in a rhythm. XC1 has a pretty major difference between characters, you have melia who switches between providing buffs or doing burst damage while managing aggro or shulk who relies on positioning. From a world building point of view 1 has a great sense of scale on account of how you can actually tell where you are on the bionis by either looking at the mechonis, or seeing other parts of the bionis. 2 feels like you're traveling across the world rather than scaling some bizarre giant. 1 is one of my favorite games, and 2 feels generic by comparison
Good game as long as you don't use the shitty british dub that redditors like to worship. Combat is hit or miss, miss for most people but I personally enjoyed it quite a bit even if it's mmo style
2 has the most generic JRPG soundtrack out of the 3. also prefer how loaded with guitar 1 was compared to the rest
>Xenoblade Chronicles
blew me the fuck away when i first played like 6 years ago, specially the fact the entire game takes place on the corpses of 2 gigantic titans and that you could actually look up and see the mechonis and the rest of the bionis based on your current position....such sense of grandeur has, IMO, never been replicated in any other game
>Played Xenoblade Chronicles X
meh, it was okay-ish, the mecha combat was kinda cool
>Played Xenoblade Chronicles 2
the "JAPANESE HUMOR" fucking made me hate this game so much, the gacha shit is fucking bullshit too, i really didn't like it, but i did finish it and even killed some of the weaker extra super bosses, so i guess the combat was at least engaging
Nothing. It's the most MMO-like game in the series. It has the worst quest structure you'll ever find a game. Games appear randomly on the map at specific hours of the day, and there's no indicator as to how many quests there are and where or when they will show up. You outlevel the main story content by doing just a tiny bit of side content, and the gem system is G A R B A G E.
someone post a good guide for emulating XC1 on Dolphin pl0x - also how do I even use a gamepad if this game is designed for wiimotes?
mitsuda's tracks are way less generic than shimomura's the rest are the same. they both have the same amount of guitars
Of course got to see if the DE fixes anything regarding that.
it uses no motion controls in the slightest, i played it on a nunchuk but only because i didnt own a wii pad
> It's the most MMO-like game in the series
that's X
>if this game is designed for wiimotes?
It isn't.
im forcing myself to play through 2 because im afraid they are going to retcon shit to tie them together. i hope this pays off later, but it probably wont
They've been tied since 2 became a thing.
yeah but i dont know if 1 is going to get shit changed towards the end to accomodate the events of 2.
They might but it doesn't really need to. Both happened in parellel but only Klaus is aware of the existence of Shulk's world.
>Play XBX
>get bored after an hour
>Play XB2
>have an absolute blast
I'm really excited for the definitive edition of XB1, I've heard nothing but glowing praise for it and I hope it's fun.
it blows 2 and X out of the water, and now that it has graphics to match it is for sure the best entry
LOL, STFU retard. The only thing XC1 has going for it is it’s story. It’s mechanics are outdated as fuck with X and XC2 existing
die hard XB1 fan who JUST finished XB2 after buying it during launch. i got burned out from it and decided to finally finish it. can't wait to play XB1 for the third time (being serious, the updated graphics, new zone, and other possible additions make it worth it)
not him, but it's hardly outdated.. primitive in comparison to X and XC2? yes but it's still a good battle system as a standalone. they might even do some adjustments for the definitive edition
unrelated: if anyone said this about death stranding they'd get crucified by Yea Forums
Best level design in the series. Very unique and beautiful, with a lot to explore.
i hope not. 2 bloated the fuck out of the combat. if they want this to be a good remaster all it needs is restored content that was planned for the wii but scrapped, and the new graphics. and i really hope that shulk's gravity defying jump is still in
i liked it. i was bored the first few hours in and then you get to leave the first area and i was hooked. i liked xcx too although the characters have no personality. and xc2 is anime trash.
Who said it was below 720
obviously, this is nintengaf
Have to agree that quest system is annoying as fuck, especially if you're a completionist.
However I would recommend playing for the world building, OST and overall art direction. It was really beautifull even on Wii, so this remake should be really good.
how the fuck did you beat Zanza?
I was able to beat xc2 but I couldn't finish xc I restarted it 3 times got to fiora and dropped it that's maybe because I played it on the n3ds I hope I can finish this one
isnt the setting of death stranding in america? and im sure the musical score is going to be similar to metal gear games or any AAA title
>gud ol' nature in rural murica' with no music
vs
>2 FUCKING GIANTS WITH WILDLY DIFFERENT ECO SYSTEMS, CLIMATE AND MUSIC
and fucking snoys still wonder why Yea Forums makes fun of them
To be fair the only thing that halts Death Stranding from having any potential in my eyes is Kojima's pretentiousness and the people that gobbles his cock.
>Quality falls after Sword Valley
Where the fuck did this meme come from?
From the fact that it’s not a meme.
It's even worse in everyn regard. Yes, it's possible.
but that's simply wrong and you know it.
It's definitely a meme. There's nothing wrong with the 2nd half of XC1. Cope harder Geno.
Am I missing something or is the combat fucking shit in this game? I tried the Wii version, played for three minutes, killed one monster and quit because it's like... MMO combat, but worse?
learn the battle system, there's topples, poison, speed boosts, and whatnot
>it's like... MMO combat, but worse?
Yes.
So basically you didnt even get to main protagonist gimmick weapon and all combos and chain attacks? You are retard
The game doesn't even properly fucking explain what the first ability you have does. Can I not damage the enemies without it? Do I do extra damage with it on? How long does it last?
>Never played this. I hated XBX and XBC2.
Think about this X and 2 both improved on certain aspects XC if you didn't like those to you're not gonna like this one.
Ok so after checking, apparently that is how it works. Your party members can't damage the enemies if you don't buff them. Cool game, retards.
You mean you read the skill description that tells you what it does?
No, I read the wiki because I didn't believe the game was actually so stupid as to make your party members literally useless without a buff.
mechon are the only enemies like that, and you can just buy anti mechon weapons and skip monado enchant.
You went to the wiki even though the game explicitly tells you how the skill works and you can easily figure it out for yourself within seconds in the first tutorial battle?
None of this is making me want to go back and try the game again. It sounds about as fun as getting my teeth pulled. I wanted to check it out because it's apparently really popular, but it's clearly not for me. Sorry about losing my temper back there.
I thought maybe it was a bad translation or something.
It's really not that big a deal. Most of the enemies you face aren't mechon and don't require enchant, and later in the game when you do face a lot of them you have access to weapons for everyone. I think there's only one area that requires heavy use of enchant.
enchant is never needed after valak mountain once dickson starts selling the anti mechon weapons
Shows what I know. I thought all enemies you fought in the game were mechons. Here's a list of thing I knew before I tried to play the game:
>I'm really FEELING IT
>Monado Power (whatever that is)
One thing that stood out to me about this game as far better than its sequels, aside from the plot as many have pointed out, is the characters specifically. The main cast is fairly well developed and mostly have pretty likeable personalities. Gameplay wise, they're all fairly varied as well, and you can have an enjoyable time playing as any of them. Dunban was my favourite.
I really hope for the remaster that they rework the AI for Shulk and Melia so that they are useful as AI controlled companions, and you aren't forced to control them for them to be properly useful. I also really hope that they keep the remembered equipment in flash backs. That was a real quality touch that made a good impression on me.
Hope the combat will have a couple more mechanics.
It was fine as a first attempt but other than Melia having a cute Gimmick it was just very simple hotbar mmo, XCX and especially XC2 really improvd on it.
Right. I didn't specify because I couldn't remember when they became available in shops. Before then there are other workarounds too, aren't there? Like Dunban's starter sword is anti-mechon, and pure ether attacks can also do normal damage.
The other thing is mechon being armored is kind of a plot point for a fair chunk of the game. It makes sense.
the intro makes it seem that way to be fair, but most of the game is on the bionis, and it is mostly wildlife
X improved on it, i think 2 added in too many minigames, while diminishing the power of chain attacks. 2 is fine for what it is, but i would prefer if a third game were to release that they dial back on some of that system
It really wasn't much at all. Driver Combos, Blade Combos and stacking up Elements for Chain Attack on top of the old aggro management, healing, defensive moves and managing invul with cutscene attacks.
I agree that it shouldn't be the exact same thing but just keeping your dps / aggro skill on cooldown and managing your monado power / magic / bullet etc. is way too simple in hindsight.
>I hated XBX and XBC2.
Stay away from this one, then.
BORN IN A WORLD OF STRIFE!
yeah, any ether based attacks will damage them, as well as normal attacks on a toppled enemy. shulk/reyn can set that up rather easily too
if you didnt like x or 2 you arent gonna like this one either
reddit mostly
Tora >>>>> Riki
Tales wishes it was as good as XC2, be it in its presentation, music, world, and basically everything. Nowadays, only the skits and the bant between the characters are good. Stop spreading shit.
