When the Xbox was introduced to the market, it needed to find a way to survive in a market controlled by Sony and Nintendo. What it did was attack Sony by pointing out differences in hardware. During the Xbox 360 days, the console wars were raging harder than ever, with Sony's lackluster list of exclusives constantly being brought up. By that point, both Microsoft and Sony fans wondered why Nintendo's sins were never mentioned, so they added Nintendo to the console wars. Even when the PS4's lineup of new games beat out everyone else, it was still labeled as only having Bloodborne.

Console wars have been around since there was more than one console on the market, guy. Sega and Nintendo had a HEATED rivalry back in the day, it's why Sonic getting into Smash Brawl was considered a huge deal, because just about everyone was alive during a time where even suggesting Mario and Sonic being in the same game was absurd.

Really I use to not like Yea Forums at all, I cursed Yea Forums for being so mean spirited everyday and dragging my life down... But then I met truly ugly posters. Posters that had deeply rooted problems with them that acted as if they were
a strawman in a comic every single day towards everyone around them.
Comparing Yea Forums to that, there's ironically alot more hope for this board than a smaller community of another board.

It's proportional to the amount of underage on Yea Forums. Parents usually buy only one console per generation (if that) for their kids, so the kids are stuck with whatever they get, unable to access the exclusive library of all the consoles they don't have. From there it's just one step, by means of sour grapes, to hating on other consoles online. A grown person in this situation would buy all the consoles he wants and simply not care about the ones he didn't buy, so a console war would be impossible among adults.
That's how it was explained to me anyway, and I find it quite plausible.
