The only characters I didn't know before their inclusion in smash were Ness, C.Falcon (played F-Zero but didn't recognize him), the FE duo and G&W.

I've played a bit of all the fatal fury games I have, and some of the KoF ones. 98 was pretty good. And I played Art of Fighting, that one kinda really sucked though.

Here's a romset with a bunch of arcade games that fightcade supports in it's lobby system. You apparently need the right ROM or it won't work. Seems pretty comprehensive as far as SNK goes.

Hell the reason sakurai even made smash was because he kicked a new player's ass in KoF really hard and felt bad about it. So he made the most beginner friendly "fighting game" he could. Adol being more of an action RPG character means he doesn't really have a menu system to resort to.
