It's a Kunio-kun/River City game, so you walk back and forth around the areas of the game grinding money and buying upgrades, it's not the typical left to right beat em up.

This isn't about lore, it's about very direct things like character motivations and basic continuity.

I played the game for about 4 hours and here's the stuff I noticed

>enemies ignore rules the game puts out for you
>every enemy can be beaten by the same pattern and you never get punished for using the same move over and over again on them
>every enemy has way too much health and the fact that you have to backtrack through groups of enemies makes it more egregious than it would've been if it was a traditional level system
>because every enemy has way too much health you can be stuck fighting the same enemy in the same "hit, fall over, hit, fall over" pattern for a good minute and a half(and this is against ONE enemy)
>the game is semi-open world which means you'll be running through the same areas and fighting the same enemies a bunch of times which gets real boring real fast
>every boss fight is awful
>you have to TRY to lose in this game because it's super easy

I think it's just a boring plot-twist, it seems just like a joke, not that the game that itself seriously but it's just a lame twist.

But in what sense? I would assume the upgrade and back and forth are more repetitive in nature in this one? Also what about the credit feeders? Is it one of those games that can get a little unfair to play at points forcing you to replay segments or something?

Also I dunno, that's vague. Old beat em ups had plenty of flaws, and it's not like the strategies in them were deep. An enemy type like to sneak behind, another can do a slider, another can do a grab, one is more like to do a bum rush when your're far away, another has Ai programmed to try and be as brain dead as possible fodder.
Despite this, I still find them pretty fun, so i'm looking to see if I can enjoy this one.

Streets of rage did it will adding some short story segments to spice things up, and make you worried about the outcome, and even multiple endings, but unless the game deliberately goes out of it's way for it, I don't think a "sike" ending is that offensive in nature.

If you're going to tell people to just close their eyes and shut their ears you should start first.

To sum it up the gameplay loop is too stop and start since enemy hp bars are bloated and they take almost 3 seconds to get up after you knock them down, and all of them get up at the same time. And being close to them on wake up will just trigger their instant wake up attack so you have to hang back. Enemies and encounters are homogenous, very few require unique tactics or approaches. Enemies dont complement each other or create interesting situations, weapons are shit, grabs are worthless, etc. Oldschool beat em ups have a decent amount of gameplay depth and planning involved along with enemies that play off each others strenghts, like in Final Fight an Andore + Poison mix plays out very differently to a double Andore fight, here the enemy types hardly matter you fight them all in more or less the same way. You could go up against 2 wrestlers or 2 generic schoolgirls and the fights are the same kind of do a dashing attack/short combo and juggle, wait for them to get up, repeat.

The game has an okay combat, you can experiment shit with wall-bouncing and other shit, but it's not something very complex. I thought it was fun until the end, but if you want something with more meat, there's Fight N' Rage that has a more solid combo system, or even River City Ramson Underground, which has many problems, but it has some cool combat stuff.

A lack of complexity is the least of its problems, if anything it's far too complex for its own good the devs were too busy cramming in as many moves as they could to think about their utility, the flow of combat and enemy design. There are beat em ups that have exactly 1 attack with more meaningful depth and more engaging gameplay than this game.

I've used most of her moves too because the game's enemy design is too generic and the gameplay's too boring and devoid of challenge so the only way to entertain yourself is to cycle between moves with very similar properties. It's not like say Final Fight where you use moves because they're are tools which are very useful for the situation, here it's more like completely brainless mashing and combos. You could really just rely on the spinning attack and the air grab if you wanted to with the occasional B attack in sticky situations, the rest is interchangeable fluff.

yeah, it is a fact, but they didn't need to do this to give us a reason to want to fight them. it comes out of nowhere especially because there isn't a single moment outside of this that breaks the 4th wall(as far as I know)

Just finished the game but what are the other endings you guys are talking about? And they're all the same to boot? Ending I got was them landing in the spa, being told they have no idea who they were, and then punching the boys through the roof.
