you play

No

He's right though. I put a lot of time into this game over the last few years just to reach the point of being an average player. It takes practice. If you want particular things to focus on, first you need to get a feel for the lock on camera and try to train your brain into remembering that pressing left and jump will always make the car go to it's left regardless of which way the camera is pointed. Next, get a feel for your position on the pitch relative to the other players on your team. Give them their space and make sure that your team has the entire field covered so that you don't have 3 guys up front attacking the opponent's goal while your goal is untended or vise versa. And if you wanna get good at aerials the only thing you can do is practice and learn it via muscle memory. Doing the practice drills over and over is a good way of getting a handle on the aerial controls which are definitely the trickiest part of the game to get good at.

Try to have fun, it's a great game. Don't beat yourself up too hard because you can't do all the crazy shit you see in youtube highlight videos. The game has a very high skill ceiling.

The answer for every single "how do I get good at X?" is always to just play for hours on end. Wasting time watching some faggots on YT wont help. Play and play and play.

I watched yt for the basics but even they are advanced. I'm struggling with things like super basic things like hitting the ball while it's in the air.

Imagine watching a youtube video on how to do a bicycle kick and going to a field and getting pissed you can't do it your first try.

THEN JUST KEEP PLAYING THE GAME. You will get better, put the fucking time in ffs.

>I'm struggling with things like super basic things like hitting the ball while it's in the air.
thats not basic though. Thats something you can only just do with 50 hours in. Shut up and keep playing.

I can see why the community is called a pack of cunts. Thank fuck I didn't pay for it. Enjoy your game, shitbags.

Just play it retard. I became rank 800ish in KI a couple years ago despite never watching a video on it or being good at a fighting game before that. You know why? I played every day

this game is like a sport you just have to practice
its good to look up stuff to get an idea how something works but you yourself have to practice it over and over again

The "basic" videos are saying "Yeah bro, just air dribble, wavedash, use walls and freestyle" It's not basic at all.

the game is simple enough you don't need "basic" videos
basics are driving, boosting, and jumping. you hit the ball literally by crashing into it. you can play with bots to get the hang and feel of it

For real though, after driving around like a toddler for a week, that first aerial goal you manage to score is unbelievably satisfying. I'm glad I never watched any videos, just learning the tech on your own over time gives so much gratification. Wish I had more time to play this game now.

>it's not basic at all
Exactly. You don't need any of that shit till you're already at champion level. You can't jump to the end of the skill tree without learning the preliminary knowledge and consistency required to execute it.

>furry show

Why is it so hard to hit the ball in this game? The camera is all over the place.

I will say though, make sure to learn to aerial the right way (double jumping early rather than right before you hit the ball) because it will be a pain in the ass to unlearn later if you learn it wrong

I'm Champ 1 in this game, and just hit 1k hours played. I'm nowhere near the skill ceiling yet but I understand the fundamentals well, so let me give you new anons some advice.

>Keep ballcam on 80% of the time
Unless you're going for boost, when you're trying to hit the ball you should almost ALWAYS have ballcam on.

>Fuck around with your camera settings
Look up a guide for specifics, but generally you want far distance, fast camera swivel, average-high FOV, and for the love of god, turn off camera shake.

>Be critical of yourself
You'll progress much slower if you're constantly blaming your teammate. Most goals scored on YOU in this game are a combination of both you and your teammates making poor plays. Don't beat yourself or others up about it, it happens all the time, but understand what went wrong and try not to repeat the mistake next time.

>Don't be afraid to go for shots you don't think you have the skill to hit
Many people will get angry if you miss shots or go for aerials in low ranks. This can intimidate some players to not leaving the ground enough. You'll only improve by developing upon your mechanical understanding of the game.

>UNDERSTANDING ROTATION
No matter what other people say, this is THE MOST important thing you need to learn if you're going to be good at this game. It will come fairly naturally eventually if you're mindful of it, but THINK about where you need to be in relation to what your teammates and opponents are doing, and in relation to where they are.

>Pick your shots
You need to be constantly asking yourself "Can I go for this shot?" "Is my teammate going for it?" "Can I make it there before the opponent?" "What happens if I miss, is my teammate there to pick it up?" Alwyays, always try to stay out of NPCmode where you just go through the motions reflexively. That's when you'll start losing games and start tilting. Will post more in a second

Holy shit, some actual good advice. Thank you based user.

should i bother playing if i dont have a controller?

>Mechanics vs Game Knowledge
You need both mental understanding of what plays to make, and mechanical capability to execute those plays. Whilst both will come from playing regularly, as you rank up you will very quickly find yourself being scored on by people with higher mechanical skill than your own. This is due to the fact that Rocket League has thousands of training packs, from wall aerials to backboard and ceiling shots to passing plays, dribbles, fakes and saves. While you don't NEED to spend hours in these training packs - I didn't - I highly recommend that you boot up the default aerial pack whilst you're searching for a match. If you ragequit a game, you'll get a five minute online ban. Take this time to practice trying to score all of the aerial shots you can in all 3 difficulties, All-Star being the highest. I also highly recommend practicing wall aerials as they won't come as naturally to you as some of the other techniques.

>IMPORTANT REMINDER
Whilst it's nice to have all of these extra mechanical abilities, don't forget that they are all driven by your game knowledge. I see a LOT of flashy players that still make basic positioning and rotational mistakes that ultimately lose them matches. You don't need to all the fancy new tech to win unless you're high, high champ to grand champ. That said, practice the following:
>Wall shots
>Aerials from ground
>Dribbling
>Flicks
>Fakes
>Half-Flips (important for getting back to goal fast)
Other than those mechanics, don't worry too much about doing the hot new trick of the week that all the epic youtubers are doing. Good luck, and have fun!

>500 hours logged
>plat 3 in duos, plat 1 in 1v1

The skill ramp is much harder, especially so if you eventually end up picking a controller up, but it's possible if you want to. Whilst it's rare you do occasionally see KB&M only players in pretty high ranks!

That's not bad at all, user! 1v1s are pretty tricky. Keep it up.

that's normal dude.
i have over 1000 hours, only just got to Champ 1 in 2v2. in 1v1 i can barely scrape Plat 2.
imo the transition from plat to diamond is much harder than diamond to champion.

ok so i won't bother playing thanks for the advice

Thank u frens

Rocket League might be one of the most mechanically straightforward games ever made. That's part of why it's great.
Every crazy thing you see someone doing is a combination of driving, braking, jumping, and boosting. The more you play the more comfortable you will get and eventually you'll start doing cool stuff.

this. there are literally only 4 different things you can do, but the physics are so well designed and implemented that it results in an insane amount of mechanical possibilities and plays.

>Learn when to/not to chase the ball
>Learn how to rotate
>Learn how to do basic aerials and manage your boost
If you grasp all three of these, you'll already be above average.

if you actually want to get better and aren't just trolling for you's there's a few things you can keep in mind when playing
first of all, do the preset training sets, particularly the rookie and pro sets of striker and goalie. being able to hit the ball and put it away from your goal or into the opponent goal is pretty important
after that you can move on to all-star striker/goalie and do aerial training. I wouldn't worry too much about acing aerial training, some of those shots are horseshit but if you can get 50-70% then you've gotten just about everything you can get from that level of training
dropshot is good for raw aerial training - intercepting and redirecting aerial shots away from and into goal areas on the map
for standard matches, knowing when to hit the ball is as important as being able to hit the ball
know where your teammates are and adjust your positioning accordingly - in 3v3 you usually want two people trying to make shots and one person either falling back to get boost or defend the goal, and when one person runs out of boost they fall back to a defensive position and the defending player moves up to hit the ball. this is called rotating and it's important to understand the flow of the game and to prevent dumb goals from being scored on you, mainly from open goals
it's also good to know where your teammates so you don't go for the same aerial that someone else is - having two teammates in the air is usually a bad situation
most youtube videos are going to give you disgustingly advanced tactics that most people don't use below super/grand champion like ceiling shots or air dribbling or whatever
the only tactics you need for low-mid level play are kickoff strats and half-flipping

Great advice.

For camera settings I just looked up what most of the pros use. Takes a while to get used to, but makes everything so much better.
