Lol fuck off, it was a very atmospheric game with great storytelling, good characters (even if Wake himself sometimes walked the line of "too boring") and a fun light mechanic that was better than it had any right to be and managed to carry the game's combat into "OK" territory.

It also got released as a "free" game with PS plus one month. A good number of people played Until Dawn and I'm sure some of them bought Man of Medan because it was the same kind of game from the same developers.

It means they're both selling "eh" numbers in regions such as the UK. Astral Chain is doing especially well in Nintendo woshipping territories such as Spain, but there was only about 1k difference in first week sales in the UK.
Ultimately, some games are driven by word of mouth. Control has been very well received and a lot of filmmakers and such have been gushing over it. Control was made on a relatively moderate budget. I think it'll be fine long term.

They make interesting games. And I want more of the industry to be like that but in reality the actual game play is usually the weakest part of most of their releases. It as if they're constantly tripping over this line they're trying to walk of making a "game" like Man of Medan or Detroit:Become Human but with more classic or conventional interactive elements or more involved play style. And on paper that sounds great, they just never really pull it off. I think in the future they adopt a simpler less graphically intensive style and focus more of their time on enjoyable play mechanics.

Control is much lower budget than people seem to realise. It had a dev cycle of 2-3 years which is a heck of a lot shorter than most Remedy titles. Also its design is far more economical. It doesn't blow its budget trying to be "cinematic".

But this is a good example. Max Payne has a much simpler or straightforward story. It's a "classic" kind of game model. QB, AW, and Control (and this is a positive to me) have much more involved stories. And their game play mechanics are non conventional. And if I'm remembering correctly "bullet time" was an equally interesting or fresh original concept at the time of Max Paynes release but it didn't detract from the game as much as the things Remedy has implemented since. And I think that's because Remedy puts to much priority on trying to recreate the excitement of a new kind of game mechanic that they won't take a step back and realize that maybe they're coming up short in other areas.

I just disagree. It's not a I didn't like it overall but what I liked was wondering around control looking, reading and learning about O.o.P. and A.W.E cases. The idea behind the play style is a good one but the execution was severely lacking. It was maybe after two hours or so where enemy encounters for me were just tedious, not overly difficult, just boring. It was the thing that stopped my progression of just walking around the Oldest House and looking at weird shit. And that's a problem to me. Overall I'd still rate control as good game, something I hope gets a sequel because I'm interested in that world/story. I just didn't enjoy PLAYING it.
This is a PC game, though. A good old fashioned PC game with afterthought console versions that run like garbage.

There's one thing that prevents me from liking this game enough to keep going: the movement.
I don't know if I'll be able to explain it, but it's something I noticed with many games, specially AA. Like, the balance of endlag, aniamtion polish and VFX aren't good enough and make the game feel worse than it probably is. Take the dash ability for example, it feels like shit. Barely any particles around Jesse, her animation is really static (it's like she's floating rather than dashing) and the enviroment isn't very affected. In contrast, the melee attack looks really cool, but doesn't feel as powerful when landing it and it does the same aniamtion in the air, like Jesse is standing on ground.
Also the strictness of climbing a ledge animations are so slow that whenever you try to quickly more around the enviroment you'll be pausing from time to time because Jesse needs to vault or grab onto an obstacle.
I know they are different games but I never felt these when playing something like DOOM, Dragon's dogma or even Fortnite. I usually describe this to my friends as "dudebro" or "paycheck" polish, because it's the kind of things that only someone autistic over this precision and "feeling" when playing will do it, which most A+ companies lack as most workers are dudebros or just go there for a paycheck, without investing themselves that much on the game.
The rest of the game is fine, can't say anything too bad or good. I'll recognize I love how much shit floats around during combat, tho.

Sam Lake did a great job weaving good writing in with a nice game back in the Max Payne remedy era. He just became rather too indulgent towards the writing while Remedy gameplay turns into a vestigal appendage or something.
Alan Wake could've been better with refinement (I mean, I thought AW: American Nightmare's writing was terrible, but it did refine the gameplay) while Quantum Break was a tv show starring that guy. You know the one, I think his name is CIA.

It's only as slow as you feel like playing it. You can shield dodge and slam into enemies at mach 5 the whole time too, that's what I did since they drop HP on damage so you can just whip around from group to group of enemies.

The game was a big let down following Until Dawn. You could really see the difference all the extra Sony money made. Facial caps and animations were janky in Man of Medan, it was also like half the length of Until Dawn and had half of the decision charts. On my first playthrough I managed to do everything right and get all the characters to survive, which I cant say I did in Until Dawn.

It's not about ammo management you fucking knob. It's about giving the player the ability to rapidly and frantically flip between weapons without being encumbered by the downtime of having to deal with a universal reload time.

The setting is pretty unique even if it takes from SCP the x-files and other places. The gunplay feels good despite your spergout about having a transforming gun and you have telekinetic powers as a backup. The game has an actually interesting place to explore, and doesn't hold your hand with objective markers. It also has some amazing voice acting, and the usual Remedy side content.

I knew nothing about this game or even heard of it until reviews came out.
I rented this for PS4. The storytelling is a mess, not as weird or memorable as it should be, but the gameplay would compensate for that if it ran well. It seriously drops to a single digit framerate on my base console. I wish it would've expanded on the Metroidvania elements, for the most part I had a good time. The gameplay is simple yet satisfying. I appreciated the commitment to make it at least somewhat challenging by not having regenerating health, even though you can cheese many enemies/bosses with telekinesis throws.
