My number one game that I regret buying is Brink. I was a senior in high school at the time, at the peak of my "playing the fuck out of online team shooters" phase, played a fuckload of Halo 3, COD, etc. My friend was telling me about Brink and getting super hyped for it, and I generally didn't pay a ton of attention to games media at the time, and was a lot less critical than I am now. When Brink came out, he had me and a bunch of our other friends convinced because he was hyping it for months, we all bought our own copies, and started playing online and it was just such a dull, boring shit show, it was glitchy, and wli maybe played 10 hours of the fucking thing. It will always live on in my memory as the worst game I played.

After this I am convinced that these kind of games problem is actually the combat itself, there is ALWAYS some kind of exploit or broken shit that turns it from a "medieval war" to "fighting with autists who know the meta and have memorized every gameplay exploit like goof animations and spinning the screen like a spastic so they are unpredictable" there has got to be another way to do team based melee fighting games. Mount and Blade is good because the singleplayer component sees literally hundreds of combatants, it works there, it doesnt work when its small scale because of the aforementioned exploits and anti fun shit, there is no average players in these games, they are either absoloute autists or shit, because there is no middle ground the playerbase dies on its ass, shit players dont want to get rekt every game and autists are just plain anti fun to fight. and I say this as someone who has at least 500 hours in Chiv and Mord, these games are shit, they need to developer a different combat system, For Honor was on the right path to making something different but shits itself with too much rock paper scissors antics.

Play the good, free, community driven ones like cdda if you want survival crafting apocalypse grab bag, or dungeon crawl stone soup for a more streamlined, reactive game. They both have tilesets if you need those, but while stone soup gives you more detail via tiles(enemy weapons being obvious at a glance, for instance) cdda tiles just add clutter in my opinion. Dark green Z is a fat zombie, bright green is a regular zombie, etc. Rather than having to figure out what each sprite is in a horde, the wash of colors makes it obvious at a glance.

Atelier Rorona. Not cause I didn't enjoy it, but because real life commitments kept me from playing it for so long that Rorona+ came out when I just finished the 1st assignment

As much as I don't like Tripwire for Killing Floor 2, at least they gave constant posts on "oh hey this is what's coming soon". It shouldn't take two months to make horses have momentum damage applied to them or the other horse fixes.

I got killed by the tutorial boss and sent back to the beginning. Like I'm going to waste another 40 minutes doing all that again but I hear that's kind of the thrust of the game anyway. Glad I didn't pay money for that. If I ever change my mind I'll use a trainer or watch it on YouTube.

Brink. Looked promising, and I genuinely enjoyed it for a while, but the inherent problems and stupid decisions on the devs part made it die pretty much overnight, and if a multiplayer game loses its base, it's all ogre.

I also regret buying hellgate london on launch. I like ARPGs, but that was an ugly, ugly mess of a game, even if I liked the setting.

Bioshock infinite. Interesting story and concepts, though done to death. The true corn in the turd, however, is definitely the mindless gameplay. Just a rooty tooty point n' shooty with awful plasmids that are almost literally all the same fucking thing just reskinned. It's especially disappointing because the interesting game they showed at e3 was nowhere to be found in the launch, just a hollow cowadooty inspired single player experience. I will never forget this. I even bought the collectors edition. I was so fucking mad and I'm going to die mad.
