This person has connections at Monolith, and states that the game will be a largely "straightforward reinterpretation" of xb1. Take that as you will, but it seems like they're keeping the core story essentially the same and adding new content on top of that.

I also didnt like xb2 so I really hope significant changes aren't made to the ending to connect the games more. Part of the reason xb1 was so good was because it was completely self contained. I'd take a couple additional lines of dialogue that hint at things here and there, but if we hear Rex's voice during the final battle I'm out.

I like XC2 but hearing Rex’s voice would make no sense and would spoil XC2 anyway. Just don’t throw a fit when the space station has an elevator under it and there are mecha flying around it, because that is somewhat likely.

The space station being changed visually would make a lot of sense, as would some additional dialogue between Klaus and Galea that more closely matches xb2. I wouldn't mind that at all.

I'm also expecting Alvis to refer to himself as Ontos at some point.

I think they need to be really minimal with the dialogue changes but have enough so it bridges better with the new vision Takahashi has. I think Alvis mentioning he had another name along with slightly altering the details of the universe creation would suffice.

They apparently hinted at XB1 definitive on their discord. I'm not a member, I just saw the tweet yesterday and spent some time on their profile. Your call on whether or not you want to believe them.
