Everybody who's ever touched a rendering pipeline knows that it's all smoke and mirrors, and that a good approximation is better than an actual render. Balancing performance and actual effects is literally the entire crux of graphical engines, and all that hardware really does is let you either put more content on the screen at the same time (polycount) or give you dedicated hardware to pull off useful and common tricks (raytracing, tesselation, physics, etc)

Why would I give a fuck about high level rendering? Is that going to improve the gameplay of games? I doubt it. In fact I'd rather have developers focus on gameplay and music than graphics. Face it faggot. The best PC games can all be played on a toaster. Deus Ex, VTMB, System Shock 1 and 2, Thief, etc. Games literally don't need to look better than that. I've always had the opinion that graphics literally don't need to get better than what is found in MGS2 and 3 and the most.
