gremory has good nukes, but the broken master classes all focus on movement, to the point gremory and heavy armor classes feel left behind, but gremory does have warp though. You can try mortal savant with her for example, since dorothea benefits from both reason and sword, or dark knight

3H is actually pretty stingy when it comes to deployment slots compares the most FE games, the highest deployment amount is 12 IIRC and that's only for the final maps, most maps only have like 10 or 11 slots so you don't need to recruit many people to make a full team

Labyrinth of Refrain is probably my go to then if you like RPGs at all. It's a great old school first person dungeon crawler that benefits a lot from the portable aspect of the Switch. The cast is also great, and probably the one time a peg-legged tsundere waifu is pulled off well. You also get a cute and funny apprentice and a rapey nun

Mortal Savant is a caster class, not a standard footsoldier class and shouldn't be seen as an upgrade to Swordmaster/Assassin. Because of Black Tomefaire it outdamages Gremory by +2 per cast (and ties with Warlock), and trades Black Magic x2, which both Warlock and Gremory get, Swordfaire enhanced Hexblade/Soulblade "crit casting" of Wo Dao+. It actually works reasonably well on Marianne and Dorothea (although Dorothea wants not just Black Tomefaire but also BM x2 for Meteor, so Warlock is probably her better option), although is awful on everyone else, such as Felix.

Of course all of this assumes you're not just 10/12 Wyvern Lord/Falcon Knight + Dancer + Strider every map.

Falcon Knight is gender locked, so only applies to women, which is crying shame since Seteth, Ferdinand and Sylvain would love to fire off lancefaire enhanced Swift Strikes, which would net +4 extra damage over a Wyvern Lord counterpart in that circumstance. So, with that aside:

Male Character: Wyvern Lord
Female Character: It's pretty close, most characters will prefer Wyvern Lord since it's easier to build into (due to the existence of Wyvern Rider in the Advanced tier) and has slightly better offensive and (physical) defensive stats. I could see keeping one or two Falcons for dedicated mage killing or when extreme Avo is desired, although WL's mostly dodge everything anyway as is.

Game is so easy as it is I've banned myself from using all flying units and Bow Knights (as well as Stride) for subsequent playthroughs and it is LEAGUES more fun, fwiw.

Definitely gonna get Daemon x Machina, already played BotW and did all the shrines. Might get ARMS.

Is each House a distinctly different route like what Fates had? How long is the game compared to the 3DS ones?

Everyone has some stats that they like, and if your stats are good enough, they join when you ask them. These requirements are reduced (but not negated) by increasing support with said character, and a character with a B support has the chance to randomly ask you to join as a free recruit.

First half is 99% identical for all Houses. second half has a different story but shares a lot of maps. Paralogues are tied to individual units so you will end up with different ones based on the route. Game is long as shit, easily 50 hours for your first route, depending on how much time you spend dicking around at the monastery

Finally, I can use all of those gifts on something.

~40 hours each route, completely separate second half with a shared (but still different cutscenes and storyline) first half at the academy

Depending on which characters you have or recruit you also get different paralogues to further differentiate playthroughs.

There's 4 routes in total but a good amount of shared maps between them for obvious reasons, which will change in different ways depending on whose side in the war you fight for.

Heads up - some characters, like Ferdinand, can't reach B support until post-timeskip, so don't rely on the support method as your main recruiting tool.

Post skip: unique scenarios with some repeated and reused maps
I would say ~60h for the 1st run, and 30 for subsequent runs if you use ng+. Thats 150h total for all the stories, not counting meme runs/high difficulty, challgenge runs and the upcoming new content of the dlc pack

Advanced classes generally have higher growths than the classes before it, most master classes have garbage growths and you only pick them up late for the utility when your units don't have many levels left to gain anyway.

Cavaliers get the same -10% SPD as fucking knights and there's tons of terrain that negates their movement bonus.

Not really, the flying classes have good growths and Warmaster/Gremory have good growths compared to their Advanced tier versions. Its just cavalry and mortal savant that get speed negatives for some reason and like said Cavalry gets screwed at every tier.

What order should I do the routes?

Gremory has ok growths but you trade in all the tomefaires for 2x uses which isn't really worth it if the unit doesn't have something like meteor.

The plot of this game feels super predictable. Red is going to go on some grand crusade, Blue is going to have a line that will akin to "why are we here just to suffer?," and Yellow is going to be some weird buddy cop adventure but he doesn't want to rule or regrets something.

Good rule of thumb is to get everyone your main lord has a support with and everyone who shares a paralogue with one of your unites.

So for BL for example, get Raphael and Marianne because they have supports with Dimitri, and also get Caspar because he has a paralogue with Mercedes. Oh, and Church route there's no reason not to get literally everyone you can.

How far are you? The game has troupes but it's not that bad. There are some fine twists honestly.

And yes, this game subverts your expectation quite well (if that word still have any meaning after the GoT fiasco), even if you are well versed in tropes after so many jrpg
And overally the tropes are used well enough for the characters to have actual character and motiv and such

In my playthrough, he was a fucking unstoppable, unkillable, straight up 400lb gorilla made of nothing but muscle atop a fucking wyvern. He'd shrug off arrows like they were nothing but crumbs, tank any magic damage, dodge any lance or axe, and in my GD run, THKO'd fucking Edelgard while dodging her attack.

I can only assume I was lucky as fuck with his growths, but god damn. A good Cyril will make short work of anything put in front of him.
