Mods that add extra content are okay. Mods that change the base game are almost always shit. It's the worst with games that have popular overhaul mods, because that shit gets recommended to people for their first time playing which is stupid. Deus Ex, Morrowind, VtMB, etc.

I'd recommend Fallout 2's restoration mod to anyone first time, period.

Literally and unironically not a singe game fits this criteria, game is either full of soul vanilla or it's not and no mod will fix this.
There's literally, LITERALLY not a single bad game in the world that's becomes good (and not just bearable/mediocre) with mods

If it's actually just a restoration patch putting unused content back in, fixing bugs, and nothing else, I guess something like that could be okay. I don't know if I would consider adding unused content back in "changing the base game". When I say that, what I mean is a modder attempting to basically rearrange the entire game into what he deems better, and that usually just ends up making it worse.

Some of the content in restoration patch was in the files (things like voice lines), others were just conceptual things that had to be made. Most of it's fine and fixes things like Sulik's sister quest, which I loved seeing. For some reason, people still think you need to play vanilla Fallout 2 first.
I do have problems with that Deus Ex mod (if it's the one we're talking about on Steam), literally one patch broke hackable sentry turrets.
But I think Deus Ex is pretty good as is and isn't all that buggy - but if it was and Revision fixed those problems, why not?

If you installed the basic version of the Unofficial Patch, it doesn't change too much. If you used the plus version, it makes a lot of changes to Disciplines, weapon locations, changes some quests and level designs, changes dialogue, etc. It's not all bad but I consider it a sidegrade at best in most aspects or a downgrade in others.
