Playing this for the first time, is it bad that I used a guide to get through the first area?

Also the controls are wonky as fuck.

>Playing this for the first time, is it bad that I used a guide to get through the first area?
Yes, you should explore and take your time unless you're really stuck.
>Also the controls are wonky as fuck.
It has the snappiest controls in the entire series.
Fully remappable, too, which at the time was unusual for a PSX game.

All in all you smell like a zoomer faggot.
Keep this up and i'll discipline you.

oh no no no...

No, also, don't forget to get the red liquid, you will regret it.

I won't say much to avoid spoilers but remember to check every house and store before moving onto the next section. Sometimes you gain access to previously blocked areas that have... hidden stuff in there.

Also keep a few different saves in case you fuck up something.

The movement controls aren't remappable you still have to look forward to move.

Also I didn't use the guide completely, just for the parts I got stuck on, like the piano part for some weird reason and as well as the pink ball pipe thing.

I can forgive it for the piano puzzle, it can get really obtuse.
Here's an actual pro hint all the idiots don't know about:
You don't actually need to reload in this game.
There's a bug, or rather a feature depending on how you see it, where you can release your aim button, and the firearm you're using will reload automatically.
This will be extremely useful for a couple of bosses especially.
Mastering this + proper movement will dramatically decrese the amount of downtime and thus possible damage you take.

Is it possible to kill split head with just a pistol? I fucked up and didn't pick up the shotgun

Conserve ammo as if your life depended on it, because there will be at least one boss later on that will completely shut you down if you don't have a decent amount of ammo stockpiled. Don't waste it on normal mobs if you can avoid it.

Yes, it just takes a lot of ammo. 40-50 or something like that?

Yes.
Bait this animation, then shoot and walk backwards.
Fuck up the timing, and you'll die instantly.

This is the ultimate test for zoomers. Will you rise up the the challenge and adjust to tank controls and learn how to play the game, or will simple control schemes be too difficult for you to grasp?

Either way SH1 has excellent, and very precise controls.
What people fail to understand is that Harry doesn't handle like a person, but a car.
Once you understand that he's essentially a car, you can "drive" him with the same efficiency.
The problem in this game isn't Harry, it's the fucking doors...

I used a guide for every silent hill game because I'm max gamer. Still very fun ;)

Fuck, I might just load a save and re do it.

How did you miss the shotgun anyway?
It's in a very prevalent location and the game plays a cutscene too, just to grab your attention.

Just go back and get the shotgun.

Also that fucking teleporting bathroom fucked me up hard the last time I beat SH1. I think I had to use a guide just to figure out what was happening there.

>Playing this for the first time
Wonderful, this is a great game I'm glad more people are checking it ou--
> is it bad that I used a guide to get through the first area?
Yes. There is maybe one puzzle that I wouldn't blame you for looking up the solution, but this is the beginning of the game. You should probably just keep using that walkthrough for the rest of your playthrough.
>Also the controls are wonky as fuck.
You'll learn to work around them. Remember to use the camera button.

I'm in the boss room, it's fucked

I had to cheat on the piano puzzle when I first played
just don't do it again

I don't think there's a way to get another shotgun, and it's a pretty vital weapon.

You only get like 3 guns in the game.

Excuse me? Just reload your last save. There is no save point in the boss room.

My man low key admitted to using save states.

How dreadful.

I don't use save states bitch face.

When i die and load the game I'm loaded into the boss room

The game doesn't save there, just run back to the teleporting bathroom and grab the shotgun. I had the exact same problem when I played the game last time and that's what I did.

Yes it does, I died and load the game from the menu and I'm in the boss room.

Are you using an emulator?

Just reload from the last save point you saved at.

They're tank controls, it comes with the territory. I don't give a fuck what you do, but the game is very good at telling you where to go, maybe you should use the map more often. Try not to follow guides from here on, it adds to the tension and suspense.

>the game is very good at telling you where to go

How full of shit can someone be to say something like this?

It helps when you have actually played the game.

>tfw playing Silent Hill on your vita before sleepy time
So comfy bros

Well he's kind of right and I played this game when it first launched on PS1. SH2 vastly improved upon the controls despite still remaining tank controls. The fluidity isn't nearly as tight for SH1. Still a great game but if it played as smooth as 2 or 3 it would be great and probably the best one who knows.
