like a lot of languages, it would be interesting to learn and I want to but I have no real use for it so it's a burdensome task to complete for something as trivial as VIDEO GAMES
It's not that I still don't know japanese, it's that I can't learn japanese.
Why would I learn a dying language, to play shitty VNs?
Moshi mosh
>Why would I learn a dying language
to preserve it
but japanese isn't a dying language
while it is infested with loanwords those can always be removed
It used to be that educated, intelligent, worldly men would speak multiple languages to learn about the world around them, and develop their own character. Unfortunately millenials and Zs now lock themselves in their bedrooms and stare at screens all day instead, thinking this is equivalent.
>dying language
It's one of the biggest cultural exporters in the world. The actual dying languages are all European.
>平成31足す1
>まだローマ字を使っている
using IME doesn't make your broken japanese any better jamal
Don't you have some shitty political comics to pretend are funny? How old are you user, mid 20's? You fucking are the "millenials and Zs" you retard.
You don't have to be micro-triggered by the mere suggestion that you put your education to waste and allowed opportunities for your self-betterment fly under your nose while you were busy mindlessly browsing social media or playing poorly-translated video games.
We all make mistakes.
>The actual dying languages are all European.
there are tons of languages dying everywhere you just don't know about it
and worse yet, the ones that aren't dying are slowly becoming vile abominations because retards keep borrowing words, and even worse yet, concepts from larger languages instead of just coming up with shit on their own or using existing things
especially state institutions push these things in smaller countries because muh globalisation
>browsing social media
You really take me for some normalfag?
>or playing poorly-translated video games.
Does it really matter when 99% of games have terrible writing anyway?
All I'm saying is stop being one of the actual baby boomers, I'm not talking about the shitty meme here, that do nothing but shit on younger generations.
Are you retarded? Do you think that English greentext is supposed to be grammatically correct? I don't think you know English or Japanese.
but all jap media that gets exported gets translated. what encouragement is there for lots of people to learn jap keeping the language from declining.
>gets exported gets translated
No to the first, and the level of butchering that happens to translations is hilarious.
i only know the epic words from jojo
To be fair, despite the worst localizations getting some level of awareness, EOPs have no idea just how bad it is across the board.
Some do. Others pretend meme localizations are fine, but don't realize all the fundamental inaccuracies.
what jap media that's being exported isn't being translated? most people opt for watching their anime subbed or dubbed without ever having any desire to learn jap. same with video games and if the media can't be understood it gets almost no attention outside japan. most people don't care about the quality of the translation so long as they can play the game. take Nintendo tree-house for example or NISA.
Yeah, that reminds me of how the Ace Attorney localization gets near universal PRAISE despite fucking up so many things, some subtle and some blatant.
""""""translated""""""
Japanese is untranslatable to the standard that IE Yea Forums and /jp/ want, people are realizing that you need to learn japanese if you ever want to actually consume japanese writing.
but I live in Tokyo and have a pretty decent japanese, user
>what jap media that's being exported
All of it is exported. You can literally buy all of it in the internet at any time, save some doujin releases.
Some people think funny and bombastic equals well done.
>and have a pretty decent japanese
Your English needs some work.
>what jap media that's being exported isn't being translated?
There around three or four games from the Yakuza series alone not being translated.
>people are realizing that you need to learn japanese if you ever want to actually consume japanese writing.
Imagine people being this delusional.
>Yakuza
and nothing of value was lost. every good game will be translated, only garbage remains unlocalized.
I don't use english at work so I'm fine
lol user is acting bitter he can't play games and yelling sour grapes
Japanese dialects are untranslatable, yet when a japanese character in a japanese setting speaks a japanese dialect that immediately gives an enormous signal as to their background and culture. Even in non-japanese settings, the fact that dialect was chosen gives cultural context for them to be associated with. Meanwhile the western "standard" for a translating a prominent dialect is "makin' em talk like 'ey're from alabama", a completely different place with completely different cultural connotations.
If you don't know japanese language you don't know japanese content.
weebs are fucking embarrassing
just move to anime land already if you love their language so much
>seething dubfag with no argument
Cope.
>Character speaks anything resembling Kansai-ben
>Literal retard translator translates it as a southern hick accent
I have a friend married to a guy who grew up in Kansai and she asked me about how English translations usually handle those dialects. When I explained that they usually get translated as southern, and explained how southerners sound to everyone else, she was confused as to why anyone would do that.
*takes out chart*
Um, seethe?
They have to do *something* or it'll be patently obvious how incapable the industry is, so they just do some random nonsensical garbage and claim that's a sufficient replacement when in fact it's not. The entire J to E localization industry is literal fucking snake oil.
fuck you desu
Okay you retarded weeb, it's not like any Japanese media has actual good writing. Any actual meaningful works from Asia don't come from Japan anyway.
>implying you've ever read any japanese writing to comment on it
lol
You haven't either you retarded weeb. Manga is a fucking joke, as if you have actually read Japanese novel.
>it's not like any Japanese media has actual good writing. Any actual meaningful works from Asia don't come from Japan anyway.
Are you a chink or gook?
>admits it
lol
To begin with my argument doesn't even necessitate being able to read the language in question. Anywhere linguistically and culturally distant is going to have the same issue, if chinese and korean creative entertainment becomes as western-prominent as japanese, it will suffer the exact same issue. Even something like the US and Germany needs cultural knowledge exchange to communicate some concepts.
Anything of actual artistic integrity from Asia came from China or India, though only hundreds of years ago. Both exist now as nothing but shitholes. Still, the Four Classic Novels and the Bhagavad Gita are more important then anything Japan has ever produced.
The billions of dollars flowing east due to the modern anime boom say otherwise. Hell, anime's even become a topic in American political commentary. Japanese games are at the center of almost every censorship debacle in the vidya industry. Japan's literally spreading influence over the world with its work right now, whether you consider it "important" or not.
Not him but nig nog rap does that too.
Sorry, I should have asked if you were a chink or poo.
Thank god I'm neither, both are nothing but shitholes today.
Ahh jap speaking doesnt seem to be that bad but the writing system looks atrocious.
Truly peak national scale historic autism.
>Anything of actual artistic integrity from Asia came from Iran and various Mesopotamian countries.
FTFY
Rap is weirdly non-influential internationally, which gives credence to claims it's jew nepotism at work. Japan meanwhile is exerting influence across the world in places that culturally hate it.
Kana's actually pretty comfy compared the the autism clusterfuck that is kanji (the blame of which rests on the chinese).
>The billions of dollars flowing east due to the modern anime boom say otherwise
Yeah, because all of it will be remembered 50 years from now, right? You seem like the person who probably thinks Marvel films will be remembered.
The only reason Japanese media is as popular as it is is because western media doesn't put any focus on animation or comics. People grow up watching cartoons, now more then ever people want to keep watching cartoons, western media doesn't allow that.. Beside shallow comedies what does adult western animation offer really? The little that exists is good, but is so few that it can't seriously sustain an audience. If the adult animation and comic industries weren't a joke people wouldn't need to rely on Japanese animations and comics to stay interested.
I know some kanji from being a gook myself.
It would be cool to learn japanese except i feel like itll take some time to know enough to start enjoying dialog heavy games.
are you kidding, there are rap/hip hop artist all across the world even in japan and there are fans of rap all across the world. lots of these people dress in typical rap culture too. its even featured in some anime like Samurai champloo.
Japanese language is garbage. It has so many Chinese loanwords with some Korean grammar rules and different pronunciations. And Japanese culture is Indiam with a little bit of Chinese.
Let me remind you - Japs were considering replacing their language with French and they almost did it at one point.
You'd save your money and turn it into an investment if you learn Mandarin or Nigerian because that's where populations and profit is currently growing.
1, 2 and 3, here comes the retarded weebs to screech.
I can't believe some weeb is this ass blasted that Moon RPG is getting a translation.
People still haven't stopped talking about Evangelion, MGS, Pokemon, etc. What makes you think they won't still talk about it in another 20-30 years? Hell, I bet people will still remember Inuboshi's Light of Tsukimi Manor in 20 years.
>learning language only 1 country uses
seems like a huge waste of time
>You'd save your money and turn it into an investment if you learn Mandarin or Nigerian because that's where populations and profit is currently growing.
>1, 2 and 3, here comes the retarded weebs to screech.
How about the people that actually understand things like science, business as working conditions around the world? Your post reads like every completely fucking retarded undergrad with no work experience that vaguely hears "Dude, China is growing!" on campus or on the internet but doesn't actually have a grasp of what any of that means. Tell me, which countries and which sectors have you worked in? I sure hope your experience is more than 0 to make the kinds of claims you're making, otherwise no amount of crying about weebs will stop you from looking like an idiot.
>You really take me for some normalfag?
of course, yeah
>Mandarin
Someone post the screencap
>Nigerian
???
>50 years from now, right? You seem like the person who probably thinks Marvel films will be remembered.
People have been talking about Batman for 85 years. And Marvel is already at least 50 years old. Are you bad at math?
>used in some anime like Samurai Champloo
Weren't you just claiming anime is of no cultural significance?
Rap exists internationally sure, but nowhere near to the same degree it is in the US where rappers are worshiped as cultural icons. Rap is the American equivalent to kpop or idols.
Yeah, the comics, I specifically said the films.
All the same franchise. You are making a very poor point here saying things already over 50 years old are so irrelevant they won't be remembered.
>Weren't you just claiming
>clearly said in the very first post you replied to about rap "not him"
Rap is far bigger outside the US than Kpop or Jpop. there are definitely lots of people wanting to be rappers themselves outside the US and they also draw a cult following of their own within their respective countries.

Are you being retarded? Where did I say old things can't be remembered? Marvel films won't be remembered because they have no real substance, they exist as mediocre action movies. All they will be remembered for is making money, but as time goes on there will probably be films that earn more money anyway.
>smearing bird crap on your face
Japanese women are demented
As someone who has consumed quite a bit of japanese media I have seen a lot of western apropriations
>loan words
>eurobeat
>gachi
>medieval fantasy
>zoomer youtube memes
>classical and rock
>various western game stuff
>dubstep
Yet I have never once heard actual western nigger rap, seen western cartoons, or hollywood capeshit utilized in the japanese creative fandom. It's kind of uncanny how perfectly it deflects the most cancerous western cultures.
There's a jap video game i think for the 3DS that has rap in it too.
youtube.com
low rider culture exist in japan too.
Idolshit and kpop also have a certain level of international prominence. Yes they are relevant and can't be disregarded, but no they aren't comparable to the japanese media industry as a whole which includes Nintendo, Sony, all anime, all idolshit, all mobage, etc. If hip hop culture ignites a pro-drug movement in japan like japan ignited an anti-censorship movement in the west, then it might be worth reexamining the situation in detail.
>HE STILL DOESN'T KNOW JAPANESE
>HE IS STILL COPING ABOUT IT ONLINE
>gachi
>appropriated
Ah yes I am a enlightened weeaboo who knows Japanese culture very well
>while it is infested with loanwords those can always be removed
No you can't. Japanese language can't exist without chinese loanwords
The Yakuza do sell drugs in japan. they also pimp whores. there's never going to be a pro anything movement in japan because jap culture is reclusive in nature. there's always been anti censorship crowds in the west especially after violent video games and controversial music artist like marilyn manson were in the spotlight for suspected inspiring of mass shootings. Hatred is another example.
Not true at all, the vast majority of words used in every day spoken conversation are native Japanese words
While certainly interesting, you have to admit that's an extremely small event and a carfag-centric one at that. Gyaru would have been a much more relevant example but ultimately both are just spinoffs that mostly cut out the rap culture. 90% of japanese won't know who R Kelly is, you'll probably get more luck finding someone who knows Bon Jovi or Freddie Mercury.
Yakuza drugs and prostitution have existed way longer than rap has existed lmao
dead language
If you're a 5 your old kid then yes.
Nihon is a loan word
gakkou is a loan word
densha is a loan word
There's no way around it. korean and vietnamese have the same problem too but they already making progress by ditching kanji.
Aniki is a western gay porn actor and is literally more of a household name in japan than Snoop.
and you're a ignorant retard who thinks gachi is a western thing
So why associate it with rap culture as the defining factor?
You don't know what appropriation means. Lords of the Locker Room is western gay porn with western actors made for western viewers that the nips took and ran with. It was never made in or for japan.
It was a hypothetical example of something rap could perhaps culturally influence japan to do. Forgive me for not being able to think of a realistic way rap can be meaningfully culturally influential abroad.
D-DEKINAI!
>tfw there are more kanji in the japanese language than there are stars in the night sky
>Being afraid of the kanji
>Not loving them for making this awful language comprehensible
Kanji are the saving grace of written Japanese.
But japan hasn't culturally influenced any country to do anything if we're talking law changes (assuming that's what you mean't by "pro drug movement"). its just entertainment. it influenced people within the sub-culture to dress differently, flash their wealth differently, and persue different music careers.
And make lolicon a mainstream internet topic.
i don't hear anything about lolicon outside of anime or jap-already centric circles. for example, "lolicon" has never been trending on twitter.
And 20% of words in Chinese are Japanese, what the fuck is your point dumb nigger. It's like saying that English is dependent on French or Latin loanwords and that is somehow bad. You're just a fucking retard that doesn't know how language works.
With a sample size of 1, nobody can make any definitive claim of what Japan may or may not have altered in the course of history. What we can observe is that japan inspired the creation of one of the biggest western discussion platforms on the planet, and that japan is heavily ingrained to the content of that platform, and it has been at the center of many major political controversies. We also know that new mainstream-noted political activist groups springing up have been openly associated with japanophilia. We know that the recent censorship drama revolved around, as you pointed out, many japanese games rather than western violent or "satanic" games like previously. We know that there's a large number of people going out of their way to learn one of the hardest languages for english-speakers to understand, belonging to a single island country. Nintendo and Sony make shittons of money and we listen to their fans fling shit at eachother on a daily basis.
I'm not saying it's quite at obviously politically significant level at this point, but if you compare Japan's cultural importance to the west today to 50 years ago, and likewise USA's cultural importance internationally today compared to 50 or even 20 years ago, the difference is staggering and the trends are obvious. Japan becomes more loved across the world each year that goes by.
Meanwhile compare with somewhere like the EU, india, or china
>almost nobody teaches their languages in school, yet they teach japanese
>almost nobody consumes their entertainment
>japan is more populous than germany and more relevant
>china and india are more populous yet the only things they export is cheap manufacturing and fast food
The other powerful asian countries are significant in their own ways, but culturally Japan is a monolith that spreads everywhere and intakes little. China has even started openly copying japanese entertainment, hiring reputable japanese voice actors, etc.
