Astal Chain is unironically one of the most interesting and well put together games PG has ever made.
But you gotta have a high tolerance for weebshit to enjoy it.
It's like playing an actual anime, with all the positives and negatives of such an experience, and then on top of that you've got the combat system that won't necessarily click with someone that is into DMC or Bayo, it's very much it's own thing.
It's a niche game at it's core, but it's one hell of a well produced niche game.
It almost feels like Nier: Automata was the prototype initial draft for what they actually wanted to accomplish with this one.
I hope this entire "branch" of PG continues making these more experimental titles and continues doing their own thing that isn't necessarily designed to appeal to DMC or Bayo fags.

It has a lot of things working against it.
>can't change the difficulty initially, auto-set to casual, casual doesn't give you rankings leading idiots to reee
>can't change the language to jap right away
>default controls are strange and don't make sense until you understand why the layout is the way that it is, even AFTER you understand it a lot of people would prefer layout C
>you're gimped until after mission 2 and don't even know it yet, some people might quit thinking the combat system is too bland before they even reach that
>the combat system is it's own thing with it's own rules and approach so people going in playing it like DMC might be disappointed
It's a tough sell due to some design decisions.
I still hope it's selling well tho.

Astral Chain made its debut in Japan last week. Between August 29 and September 1, it sold roughly 35,000 copies. That may seem like a small amount, but the game actually did quite well.
Dengeki reports that Astral Chain sold through 85 percent of its initial shipment. That means Nintendo didn’t go crazy with a ton of supply. In fact, some consumers reportedly encountered shortages last weekend.
Dengeki believes it’d be best to consider how Astral Chain does over a long period as opposed to specifically examining first week sales.
