I have no problem with the dpad on the Pro Controller other than wishing it were on the top instead of the bottom, since most of the time if I'm bothered enough to use it in the first place, it's because I'm playing a game like Shovel Knight that's more reliant on the dpad than the analog. I do agree the buttons on the joycon are a trash replacement for a dpad, and I've been tempted to buy one of those knockoffs with a proper one, but I don't trust them.

It was the first game with the garbage-puyo "reflection" mechanic. It's a little wonky. The main way to win is to quickly build a big combo at the start. You can't really win through a 15 minute match of attrition like in Puyo Puyo Tetris. The AI will pummel you.

SNES games are some of the best ever made. Try approaching it from an open mind. You may find you like these titles. Back in the day third parties were at their best behavior, pumping out every class they had, rather than just one or two that made them really good money. Tons of Megaman X titles, Gradius 3, Contra, Axelay, it was the golden age of vidya.

we use a thing called post processing that does a lot of the heavy lifting GPUs cant otherwise handle if we didn't have this we would still be stuck sometime in the mid 2000s games wise

In your user directory on C there's a folder called .emulationstation. You have to edit that in a text editor to set up the different systems so it knows what emulators to launch from CLI and where to find the ROMs. What emulators do you want to use with it (99,9% will work from CLI btw)?

I have the 8bitdo FC30 and am still getting it for anything that doesn’t require sticks and 4 shoulder buttons. The sticks really get in the way for me playing 2D stuff, kind of forces you to hold a certain way - grew up without analog sticks there so just preference. But I definitely want the new model with the grips.

I just hope the new SNES controllers will have a home button, that’s my only gripe on the NES controllers. The NES controllers also connect super easy but the 8bitdo is stubborn to connect sometimes in my experience.
