It sure is disappointing. Only reasons for the remake is:
Graphics: Atmosphere is different everywhere. It just feels off, and the colors are different. The artstyle is the same bland blocky artstyle every other cheap game has nowadays. Sure there's more detail and everything's higher resolution, but to say it looks 100% better than the original would be wrong.
Framerate: The higher the framerate goes the more physics gets fucked up. Trying to 100% Tree Tops at 120+fps is nearly impossible. Plus there's just dumb bugs like things not working unless it's locked to 30fps.

i would argue that when channers talk about soul, what they mean is more outsider art than anything. from what i understand, gen 1 pokemon games are a great example of "soul". the overall presentation is very rough, it comes out of nowhere almost like an intrusion, but it has a very strong identity and ideological construction.

i wonder how a remake is perceived to have retained its soul from the original. although "soul vs soulless" is kind of a dumb meme right now, i can see it becoming a legit way of complaining against the onslaught of similar AAA games.

I am a Banjo-Kazooie fan, and I really enjoyed both the N-Sane Trilogy and the Reignited Trilogy. I was happy enough just to see Banjo&Kazooie back and think their Smash-related content is wonderful. If there was a Kazooie/Tooie remake, I would just be immensely happy that they're actually relevant again and getting a new game. People seriously need to calm the fuck down.

If anyting's it's absolutely bursting with it, especially in the first game re-designing every single dragon into a unique character, adding loads of little touches and being compared to near-Pixar quality.

I thought that the old Hunter looked fine. Unfortunately I can't find that edit that made the Reignited concept art look more like the original but it shows that upscaling his PS1 model is not impossible. The original's lack of eyebrows looked cooler and his long, football shaped head conveyed that simpleton look well. Reignited Hunter is great and all but he ends up looking like a character right out of Zootopia rather than Spyro. The old one still had its charm even if the model is outdated. That and Robbie Daymond's voice makes him like an entirely different character even though Greg Berger was still in the game.
