Wayforward makes good games. I got many of their Shantae and Switch Force titles. I'll get River City Girls but not now, I got too much stuff on my back log and oldfag friends are putting real pressure to play WoW Classic.

It's a really cute game, but really shallow for 30 dollars. The bosses are all embarrassingly easy and i've had to turn the music and voices off because it's just hard for me to listen to.
Combat is okay but i'm already worn out on it, and I don't understand what the attributes are doing since enemies aren't going down any faster. The combos are flashy but repetitive, it reminds me of doing attack chains in Dynasty Warriors.

I dunno. I'm just kind of disappointed, because I was really excited for this game and i'm just kind of indifferent on it.

Its a shitty trend. They started doing it on kickstarter games because the idiots that donate to them think more names famous people they know being used and more of anything in general is good. Its dumb though since this kind of thing rarely lends anything to a simple game and in fact often ruins the pacing of character interactions as when playing a game people typically read lines faster then they would naturally be delivered. Its like if you took a comic (not a cartoon mind you, a comic) and forced the reader to wait through somebody reading out the lines instead of letting the reader go at their own pace. Anyways, even games that aren't trying to sell a kickstarter started doing it since its becoming common practice as designers are used to it.

I still don't see anything wrong with Buckland or Vee. They are both fine voice actresses for the subject material. Who would even be a better actress? Once you reach a certain skill level, all female VAs sound the same and they can only talk at higher pitches to distinguish themselves, like japanese VAs do.

Normal and Hard mode. It has a nice difficulty, you lose a TON of money if you die but the difficulty feels fair so far.

It's sloppy and the combat loop is really fucking tedious, as expected from a western developer. There's so many little things wrong with it like how the punch has so many recovery frames that it feels stiff and missing it slightly lets enemies hit you in between your punches, how enemies snap to your position or instantly change directions right before attacking, how almost all of them can attack instantly on wake up, how throws are garbage and really bad for crowd control, how spammable the B attacks are, and so on. The absolute worst thing is the enemy knockdowns though, they wake up at the same time (even Final Fight understood that this is a shitty idea and gave each enemy unique wake up timers...in 1989) and the wake up takes FOREVER so I spend half of the game waiting for enemies to get up rather than punching them. Their bloated HP pools don't help this at all.

Also despise the open world, quests, unlockables and RPG elements but that's just Kunio so I didn't expect anything else.

And I'm saying you can't even do basic Kunio shit right out of the gate.

I'm not really enjoying it. Enemies take forever to die, but I don't really see what I can do to speed that process up; they get knocked down after a few hits no matter what, and the new moves I have so far don't help me kill faster. It's trivial to loop a group of enemies on their wakeup, but having to do it twelve times before they die is just boring.

I mean even with online co-op, rooms would be empty. Online would be dead. Beat em ups are too niche nowadays. I mean people keep jerking off platinum games but even stuff like bayo doesn't sell a ton.

3 hours in, pretty great. Beat the third boss. I think the 10 hour estimate for the first playthrough might have been a bit generous but I guess it depends on how much harder it gets. 100% it sounds like it'll take way longer though albeit not necessarily through meaningful content so much as grinding. Having lots of fun however.

I was expecting something like the Scott Pilgrim game, which did go full retro graphic-wise and it was fucking awesome. The only things you could say weren't completely "retro" was the music and some sound effects.
Then when I look at this game, the gameplay looks fine, but then I see the UI elements and it just looks out of place.

That's why this is not going to end well

It's not bad, it's made by Shade(Bullet Girls devs) it's much better than BG1 but not as good as BG2 with it's multiple improvements. It's closer to 2 but the jumping is now on a button instead of context sensitive so that makes it kind of jank and there is some platforming which may vary how you view a kind of janky jump. The gameplay is fine, shooting feels pretty good and bullets are instance based instead of hitscan. Enemies are pretty basic and not super aggressive but they aren't damage sponges and there's enough of them. The figure aspects(posing to avoid sight combined with how many enemies show up does give the game some difficulty but it's not going to be crazy hard or meme worthy in regards that.
The lewd content is solid and satisfying as fanservice and ecchi content go.
