i just beat him last week, the trick is to use spirit on everyone when he uses call wave. hes weak to fire as well, make good use of the zenoir and gimard serus and he goes down rather fast. currently im at the top of jeremi, getting my ass kicked by the berserker

Yeah, I was a pleb though, so I'm pretty sure I ended up just farming to buy the water gems in the dojo if I remember right.
Berserker was most definitely a real casual filter however, but I believe he can be cheesed with a certain seru though.

I haven't played Chrono Cross in over 15 years. PS1 and PS2 JRPG's defined my teenage years. There are two difficult Chrono Cross bosses that are etched into my memory, that guy in OP's pic and a guy on an island, I think his name was "Dario." I remember those two in particular because they took me multiple attempts to beat.
I wasn't as smart back then as I am today, I've gotten way better at "figuring out" bosses in games. I think back then I just bashed my head against them until I got lucky.

if I remember right, Dario was the one involved with Glenn's scenario, wasn't he? and it was actually highly abusable to tackle that Dario shit ASAP, exploit a vulnerability in his AI that made him beatable so early on, and then get Glenn dual-wielding shit so he breaks the game over his knee for the rest of the story besides the bit you're stuck as Lynx. problem was that if you didn't know how to exploit Dario, the game just shits all over you.

steal the black plate from black dragon. you now auto won the fight. option 2, he is hardwired to counter any element you cast with an opposite colored one, but yellow and green he only casts debuffs which cant kill you. so you either get the plate, or you only pack yellow and green elements

There is nothing you can do to counter his aoe crit phys spam, since there aren't any demons or spells with phys null/repel available that early in the game.
>50% chance it gets first strike and battle is doomed before you get a chance to act
>33% chance game picks the retard npc that spams magic that boss voids dooming the battle
>If the boss crits you too early before you can buff enough, big chance you're dead
