By just copying other peoples designs and setups. That's not fun and is completely soulless though.
Just play the game without worrying about autistic max efficiency designs unless you can think those designs up on your own

point is, your first builds will suck, what you are meant to eventually do is move your factory elsewhere and expand. just dont fall into the hole of blueprints, that sucks out whole fun out of the game.

what said is some useful advice especially once you start working with oil, spread pipes out and remember to use pumps for long connections, underground pipes are your best friend.

The only suggestion I got was designing everything around a bus

Having backed up plates isn't a bad thing unless your supply runs dry the moment you start using them. You can always siphon some of those out into a chest for manually adding some to factories but

I still struggle with automating hi-tech and military science packs.

I'm personally trying to build a factory where I don't end up relying on robots to move shit around again

Also, personal robots are the shit when you tell them to destroy a forest and you have so many its just instantly gone

embrace the main bus
leave room to expand and sneak extra conveyors between things in the future

mil science packs arent that bad desu, purple science is where shit gets wild and you suddenly start being short on everything
