it takes me 15 seconds to pull my switch out of a bag, and I can pause any game safely and put it to sleep the second anyone engages me, putting it on charge is as simple as plugging in a phone charger (for reference, gaming laptop power bricks are huge and you need two of them for the higher end machines)
I won't deny that desktop replacement laptops are pretty damn convenient for longer term travel, I'll happily set mine up in a hotel room or a living room, but you could never take it camping or on a road trip, the most I'll do is bring my tablet pc; which does actually play some basic games, but is less convenient because now I need to bring a 10 inch tablet and a controller around and hope that windows hasn't drained 40% of the battery trying to phone home while it's been turned off in my bag.

But yeah, people really don't appreciate that we're in an age where you can play fundamentally the same game across so many platforms and performance profiles with only the slightest of tweaks. Now performance is still an issue and visuals can sometimes be unplayably downgraded, such as the Switch version of Ark, but those are outliers and then some. You've absolutely played Doom 2016 or Wolfenstein 2 if you played it on Switch.
