You can give old gear to retainers that share a compatible class or job. Get them if you haven't already, you get two for free and they're a boatload of extra inventory space along with your method of selling things on the auction-house. Otherwise your only uses for old gear are glamour, selling for dirt-cheap, and converting into materia.

With old equipment you can do 5 things
>If its unique (pink, green, blue, or pretty much anything else that drops from dungeons) you can donate them to your grand company (Immortal Flames, Adders, Maelstrom) for seals. You can use these seals for good ~30 or ~50 gear, barding for your chocobo, or a shit ton of other useful things
>If you cant turn it in, you can sell it if you don't like how it looks and you don't want to keep it for another class.
>If you like how it looks, you can put it into your glamour dresser (in the inn) so that you can create a glamour plate. Glamour plates are full outfits you can make your current equipment look like for free whenever you're in a city. You just need 1 glamour prism (you can get these from the Grand Company! You can also get them on the market board, but its expensive-ish) for each of the items you want to turn into a glamour. Make sure to get glamour dispellers while you're at it
>If spiritbond is maxed, you can convert into materia. I'm sitting on a stockpile of them but I pretty much ignore them. Someone else could tell you more about that

I used to hoard everything that dropped. It filled up my inventories and retainers before I realized that that's way more trouble than its worth. Either just sell it to vendors or put it up on the market board. If you follow the MSQ, you'll have more than enough gil to power through 1-60 at the very least just buying mats from vendors and the market board when you want to level your crafters.

In the absolute long run it's worth your time because it's a tremendous source of profit and one of the easiest ways to do so, but crafting may or may not bore the piss out of you; crafters are largely dependent on one another due to some being able to make materials for another, and cross-class skills, so if you're looking at one crafting job it's likely in your best interest to level all of them, which is a pain in the ass and a large time, effort and gil sink.

I have no idea what it's like with pugs, but with my group I've found that the outgoing damage is a far bigger problem than the mechs. The mechanics can be a little bit tricky, but nothing too hard once you've seen them a time or two, but the party is getting absolutely fucking trucked during the last phase and that was the biggest hurdle for us.

BLM is my favorite DPS to play and I fucking despise most of the ones I see. I'm leveling BLM right now and it's super fun but I do have to admit that it is sometimes extremely tempting to not move out of AoEs. But it's not for the sake of logs since I don't parse, it's just because having to interrupt a cast feels really bad.

Don't get me wrong there's ones you can get out of with manaward, but later on surviving and making sure your healers don't want to kill you and then themselves is a pretty high priority. You want to greed the things you can get away with, not the things everyone else needs to help you get away with, if that makes any sense.

I just finished a 180 minute PvP queue.

Groups fail the DPS check in Titania normal all the time. I ran that fight like 50 times to farm the TT card and probably about 60-70% of groups wiped at least once, and around 30% couldn't clear at all.

Usually they fail because people die, either because the tanks don't think the adds need to be tanked, or because they think the big glowing blue circle marker is a safe spot and not a guaranteed instant death telegraph. However I did see a couple of runs where the DPS check failed with zero deaths AND LB3, which is just absolutely fucking embarrassing.

Tanks cleaving the entire party with Divination Rune while trying to reposition the boss after Growth Rune is also fairly common.

A lot of random people at the end of runs. It's kinda surprising, honestly. The only thing I can think is that there are a lot if tanks so bad that they can't even handle expert dungeons.

Feast training matches are often quite fast especially if you queue as healer or melee dps. It also helps that the duty itself done pretty quick so if you need to farm seals you'd be better off spamming that.

Don't know why but the Au ra run has never bothered me in the least. Also as far as MSQ is concerned it kind of compliments the main cast well since its the one race gender combo that doesn't really show up that much.

I primarily do Feast as melee DPS and healer, but it's still usually dead in the middle of the night on Primal unless you can get a train going. If you've got 7 people willing to go for hours you can go all night, though people usually taper off around 11PM PT on weekdays.

When I started leveling a healer for the rolequests I was baffled as a previously tank/dps main with how easy healing, and by extension, dpsing as a healer is. It's just 3 fucking buttons come on. An aoe, dot and a single target spell is all you have for fucks sake. You have to be extremely stubborn or extremely braindead not to dps as a healer.

Anything outside of savages and extreme can literally be completed by a tank spamming 1, a healer spamming 1, and 2 anything else standing where they need to for like 1 mechanic per dungeon.
The ONLY thing in this game to maximize beyond a failure state is DPS, and the only places where DPS is a failure state is high-end content.

Eh, I'd rather not have yet another timer to manage and I definitely don't want GL4 to be a temporary thing since it just recreates the RoF problem. I do want TK to actually be part of the rotation but I'm basically fine with GL4 just being a braindead upgrade to GL3. If they're gonna add some more complexity to the rotation I'd rather they revolve it around chakra and TK itself rather than bring GL management into it. I really don't want any mechanics that encourage frequent increasing or decreasing of GL because like old RoF it makes the job feel fucked up.

Ice phase should be Bliz III, Blizz IV, Sharpcast, Thunder III, Xenoglossy if you didn't use it to swift despair.

Hall of the Novice does say that you need to weave damage spells in between heals. But Hall of the Novice isn’t mandatory and apparently easy to miss for a lot of new players unless they’ve played other MMOs before and consciously go through HoN to see if there’s any differences between FFXIV and whatever MMO they’ve played before.

I don’t think people pay attention to that part or forget it during dungeons due to being so nervous or lazy.

AoE is useful when you're fighting 3+ mobs.
Sharpcast, Thunder IV, Freeze, F3, Flare, Flare
Repeat without Thunder and use Foul after Freeze when it's up.
If 5+ mobs, drop the F3 and go straight into Freeze, Flare, Flare spam.
Fire II is useless once you get Flare.

Agrias wrecks people because it seems like nobody knows what the fuck to do during the adds phase. You got one tank not tanking their add, a DPS is tanking instead and they get wrecked. I started playing in ARR and gone through the entire 1-50 story (the one some people call it a slog) twice because two different characters, without skipping anything and enjoyed every time. The rest of the story goes without saying.
I'm also someone who manages to clear "difficult" content which puts me at a minority on the western side of this game, along with other things like having every hand/land at 80 and currently waiting for newgame+ to both finish levelling every combat job (not sure if it will award exp though but I'll wait and see) and because I enjoy the idea of getting to relive some of the story bits.
