What's the best wrestling game for customization? I just like making a shit ton of custom characters based on games/shows/real life/etc and having them fight in cpu battles. The less limits to customization, the better.

the 2k19 has amazing customization, but it's one of the worst video games i've ever played in my life.

Fire Pro Wrestling world is surprisingly fun and has workshop support for fighters, rings and referees. also depending on your settings and the type of wrestler you pick you can knock people out with your specials

also enjoy 2k14 for what it is, really liked its "replay wrestlemania highlights" mode. Not as good as '13's attitude era though. That's not even nostalgia for that era talking I just prefer the more focused nature of it compared to how scattershot going through 30 years of matches felt. also helped that it led to having more interesting arenas instead of almost the entire list outside of the current era stuff being nothing but Wrestlemanias.

2k16 is alright, but I haven’t played a WWE games since SVR 2007. I only picked up cause it has Stone Cold on the cover and was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the game

I saw a bit of footage of 2K19 and it didn't look bad. I've been skipping the WWE games for about a decade now, but have they actually started getting better?

Nah, the character models were still kinda in that weird transitional phase at the time. Aside from one of the games having a glitch where you could make a girl throw her pants at the crowd if you reassigned their finisher to be The People's Elbow, there wasn't much point.

The customization in them is incredible and they have a decent amount of modes, however the gameplay is inconsistent, in some parts the fighting is pretty smooth (performing an irish whip to the post only to smash into them is well animated and very satisfying) however stuff that involves weapons and some of the flying and springboard attacks are very clunky and have an awkward lock-on. I'd consider checking it out if you're looking for something fun and customizable but I wouldn't pay full price for it

All it needed was a sequel that added more match types and smoothed out some of the bumps, and it'd be the greatest wrestling game of all time. Now it's just forgotten.

Custom soundtracks should be way more common than they are now. I remember playing Tekken Tag 2 and switching all the music with the Anarchy Reigns soundtrack and having a blast with it.
