Fates only did marginally better than awakening given the three versions, and the Fire Emblem audience was already far larger than TMS could ever hope for. Even if it lost twenty percent of sales it would have sold millions. By contrast, twice as many people have watched the censored gaming video on TMS than bought the game worldwide. The audience for a game like this is going to be far more irritated by censorship.

I'm not sure how you expect anyone to produce hard numbers on how the game would have sold without censorship, that's impossible to produce. For all you know FE Fates could have sold five million uncensored (no, I don't actually think this). But the game was a console exclusive for a starved market, pushed in every Nintendo Direct, and got good critic reviews. It should have done better than 60k by any metric, and given how big the controversy was it's easy to point to censorship as a large factor.
