Captain America's shield is made of Vibranium which is stronger than most metals in the known universe.
Thor's hammer is similar and unbreakable. Since Captain America can't get close without risking his life he usd the shockwave from two indestructible forces to create an opening. Of course you'd have to throw each of these at a speed relative to a recoilless rifle for it to work, but he's super strong so I guess it makes sense.
