I can't deny its memetic effectiveness, I just never understood how it came to be in the first place.

I don't think that scene is "horrid" as much as just memorable. There's a weird juxtaposition between the goofy, awkward dialogue and the serious context.

It was so dumb it circled back around to being slightly funny.

The audio of that scene got leaked before the movie was actually released, so people were literally ONLY discussing the dialogue. Someone noticed the awkward delivery on the "big guy for you" part, and how it sounds way more like Bane is saying that he's "a big guy for you" rather than it being extremely painful "for you".

It's just so silly. Even Bane points out how dumb the CIA guy is to supposedly shoot someone and throw them out of a plane.
