Meh, if they wanted to they could have put Frisk as the character and made him summon the bosses. Neutral is Undyne chucking a spear, Up is Sans/Papyrus throwing him upwards, etcetera. But they obviously weren't going to give time, resources and a character slot that can be used for any major franchise to an indie game.

He's a secret boss from an admittedly very successful indie game, and he crumples as soon as you get a good hit on him. His chances were slim to begin with despite his massive popularity. Besides, no other Mii costume comes packaged with their own song, and that ought to indicate just how much of an impact Undertale made.

There was no way an indie would get in anyway, they're doing additional characters to add more iconic gaming characters to one of the biggest games on the system and the biggest game in the franchise. I'm sure the Loli fans who want Shantae or Reimu will continue to say they're gonna happen but they're not. Its gonna be characters like Ryu Hayabusa, Leon Kennedy, Doomguy, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot, maybe Heihachi and Scorpion just to have all the fighting icons together.

nah, non-fighter characters or multiple-characters-in-one ideas are usually fucking dumb and really need something special as the base idea to truly work. shit like pokemon trainer works because each one is a fully functioning character on their own, or unique movesets for characters like wii fit trainer and umvc3's phoenix wright where so much personality is expressed by how they "fight" that makes them work.

A costume is enough. People hype Undertale (besides it being accomplished for an indie game) because no one is really making character focused whacky RPGs despite it being the best time to do that. Imaginine how much hype is generated for a game like Overwatch just because of fanart, AUs, porn/waifu pandering, etc. that can be peeled from the characters.

I think it's more like Terry was a Sakurai pick like Joker was instead of a Nintendo one because he was a big-time KoF fan in his youth. Sans was, at the end of the day, a meme character that no one really expected to get in so him getting in as a Mii Fighter costume satisfied pretty much everyone.
