I've always felt the same way. What they have here sounds interesting, though; it seems to be set between past (York) and present (the female agent) which is better to me than a direct continuation starring Zach. His story ended perfectly.

Also, this all reminds me that Swery actually originally wanted to make a female protagonist for Deadly Premonition but was told to go with a male instead. Which is fine by me, cause we got one of the greatest video game characters of all time out of it, but I wonder if Swery will recycle any of the ideas he had for her.

So many horror games are creating interconnected settings tying everything back together nowadays. It's pretty neat.

I disagree with this. DP isn't a "so bad it's good". That's more like Ride to Hell. Something to make fun of for how bad it is like the Room or Plan 9 From Outer Space. DP is a fantastic game that's just kinda broken in places.

This game is what happens when a bonkers crazy person who loves Twin Peaks and barely knows how to build a functional video game is given a nominal budget but also free reign to do whatever he wants. I legit discovered him through the vidya royal rumbles we had, and seeing him dispatching everyone and winning in the end made me play the game

I originally found out about the game because of Unskippable many years ago and thought it looked terrible. A few months later I found out my best friend owned the game so he invited me to his dorm room and played some of the hospital segment for me. The gameplay definitely didn't look as offensive as people made it out to be, but the cutscenes and interactions is what really won me over. Deadly Premonition is a rare breed for in my collection because I very rarely buy a game for the story.

1) You have to turn off some settings in the Fix or
2) The game is literally doing whatever the fuck it wants and that's no exaggeration. Usually after the prologue if you quit the game and start up again it'll fun at full 60.

Deadly Premonition was locked to 720p on PC at launch. On top of that it was highly unstable, after a while it would crash. Even with DPFix it would contentiously crash for me. For the most part I think it at least ran at 60fps, but whenever you picked up an item like the pickles, it would bring the framerate to single digit territories.
Still beat the Steam port though.

You aren't wrong, but I think what helps with Swery is that it doesn't look like he's trying to focus on the "So bad it's good" factor only for sales, he's just tries to make games on a tiny budget and D4/Missing proved he's earnest about it. DP2 doesn't seem to be a cash grab, but we'll have to wait to see more footage.

I think DP2 is also a continuation of D4 based on the scenes they showed.

I've seen footage of the Origins port and it maintains most of the Director's Cut changes, including the absence of a green filter while having a swathe of audio bugs. Don't think it'll be the definitive version. I own it on PS3 and PC so I'm not sure what to go for.

Okay okay, I know this isn't even the most bonkers thing to happen in Deadly Premonition, but people remember it and I just have to ask, how many of you DP fans have ever tried a Sinner's Sandwich?

Absolute mechanical jank when it comes to execution, but the ideas, atmosphere and characters are legitimate gold.

Swery wanted each character to have a daily beat, so instead of characters being parked in set locations they'll be going around doing their business which varies massively from time of day. It probably doesn't sound THAT impressive these days, but for the time of the game it was impressive, and does wonders to make the town feel alive.

It is legitimately my favorite game in the world when it comes to a blind playthrough.
I have never been more infatuated with a games setting and characters. I have never been more sad to finish a game then when I dinished DP and the protagonist said it was time to leave Greenvale, because it was. I had done absolutely every shred of content, there was nothing left and I'd loved it.

The running joke about their irrational hatred for Quint had me dying the entire time.

I have massive attention issues and quit games all the time. I can't remember the last game I beat. DP is a game full of monotonous long driving sequences and total bullshit headscratching gameplay on some sequences. I had already seen the first third in a let's play and I got the game for free, so didn't really feel any need to 'get my money' out of it.

The game is so fucking enjoyable I beat it anyway, and most of the side shit. There's no other game like it.

Kind of both? I've heard it described as The Room of video games a lot, because of how comedically memorable its bizarre audio mixing and janky mechanics are. But there's clearly a lot of passion behind it all. It's just a fun, atmospheric, weird experience. And York's still probably one of my favorite protagonists in a game.

I set it on Easy Mode whenever I replay it though. The combat's not great.

BTW for people trying the game for first time, you should do the subquests first.
There are a couple of them that grant many essential items (fast travel, change weather, infinite call to car).
