>be aspiring indie dev
>break down and realize that you will never manage to become this fucking successful
Holy shit bros why even try?
For real tho, how the fuck did he do it?
>be aspiring indie dev
>break down and realize that you will never manage to become this fucking successful
Holy shit bros why even try?
For real tho, how the fuck did he do it?
He’s a twink
he made a deal...
>how the fuck did he do it
worked hard to make an actually unique game while capitalising on current trends
he made a game in gamemaker
Never count another man's bread.
Being an indie dev should n't be about getting rich, it's about creating something that's wholly your own.
It might be shit, but it'll be your shit.
Well I know he didn't cry about it on Yea Forums, and neither did any of the other actually successful devs that got their start here.
The only unsuccessful indie dev that actively posted here is Yanderedev and he still got more done than you have. What's your excuse?
he made a game that's actually good, and that's not going to change no matter how hard Yea Forums cries about it
this
says the one who posted this shit thread
>worked hard
nah, he just made contact with aliens
You can do it user! Just put your heart into it!
>why even try?
If the idea that someone else is going to be more successful than you means you lose motivation you should probably just kill yourself now, because you'll never do anything ever again.
>worked hard
>unique game
Reminder this guy is a one hit wonder who was entirely supported by autistic YouTube fans. And his music is shit.
Don't give up OP. You need to focus on making great games instead of kicking back and letting moutbreathers support you.
I bet I can breathe better than this nigga
Why? I’d make a shit game if it meant retards gave me money. Fuck being unique give me money.
>worked hard
>unique game
yes user, those are both things he did
People tend to ignore this, but Toby already had a ton of support from Homestuck fags before he even released Undertale. That's a ton of free exposure.
you faggots seriously act like there wasn't a thread about this game like every time there was an update during development. Cut the shit, you stopped liking it once it got popular on Tumblr, Twitter, and Reddit and before that you were all on fucking board.
He worked his ass off. He's working his ass off right now.
Wow, there sure are a lot of autistic Youtube fans.
undertale couldn't fail, it was a perfect storm with toby's popularity already, tumblr being the hub of retards and tasteless teens, and the internet climabe being about reverse-anti-ironi. No matter how bad undertale was, it would still be popular. The art is atrocious but that's intentional. The writing is juvenile but that's also intentional.
Not OP, but where do I start besides the idea?
Can you code? Can you draw and design stuff? If not learn one. Then either learn the other or find someone who knows the other.
Cut user some slack, he was 5 back when the first demo was posted here
>or find someone who knows the other.
Note, this requires money.
IT'S PROGRESS TIME
LEND ME YOUR ENERGY Yea Forums
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
You can suck up to someone, but yeah. You can definitely get away with rudimentary coding and art if your game is good enough
Nobody would care about the niche autism simulator you'd want to make.
He piggybacked off of a successful game that hadn't been done to death yet.
or just be friends with someone
All my friends are coders. I need to meet more people
or get good at art and get your friends to be your dev team
Ignore this brainlet and don't let yourself be motivated by some autistic need to be validated by people who are frankly, complete strangers.
If you wanna make vidya, think about your favourite games and how you would like to translate your love of them to other people.
Yeah, that shit ain't happening.
>Can you code?
No, engines like RPG Maker are about my level.
>Can you draw and design stuff?
Yes.
>Then either learn the other or find someone who knows the other.
I have a friend who could compose the music, but that's it. I tried learning programming, but it just didn't click for me. I'm SOL for programmers.
if he can make it this far, you can too
And once the retards move on to the next "omg XD Steven universe" game where will your money come from?
>indie pixel shit game chosen from the ocean of similar indie pixel shit games as unique
Pathetic.
Undertale was never good. It's honestly the people who watch Adventure Time and post Sponge Bob memes that were supporting this game.
The rest of us were probably playing Left 4 Dead 2 or TF2 to give a shit.
>For real tho, how the fuck did he do it?
Good connections, and his family/friends didn't try to quash his ambitions.
Honestly, as long as you're not too ambitious in what you want to make, you can probably do it in RPG Maker
You don't need to be a great programmer. Undertale is held together with duct tape but it works for what it wants to be
Now with that attitude.
/thread
>be an aspiring indie dev
>can't find the motivation
>realize I am more intelligent and talented than Toby Fox
>suddenly filled with motivation to work hard and become successful
Feels good bros
God you're so fucking salty
i can't even imagine living with so much hate and salt inside of me.
Can't you think of anything more positive you could be doing with your time or self instead of trying to futilely tear something already immensely successful and beloved down?
Good luck to you, user. Please screencap this post and pin it somewhere for when you make it.
Good luck. His passion is his greatest strength, that autist never gave up on making his dream game.
how many cossplayers do you think he's fucked?
a rich cuck is still a cuck
Thanks user, and good idea, I'll do that
>ywn make out with a tall as fuck Redglare
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
What happened to him is akin to winning the lotto. If you start anything in life hoping for a big break that'll make you a millionaire you are completely delusional. You should still try to do whatever you want to do/makes you happy even if it doesn't get you fame and cash by the truckloads though.
dont forget Notch too when he started Minecraft used to post here too
>he thinks he'll make it on motivation
It takes discipline, user. Motivation is temporary. Good luck either way
fucking nailed it /thread
Fuck off Toby. Anyone who had played good games agrees that your game is shit.
oh no no no no no
Would it be in the realm of possibility to code combat that isn't completely turn-based in RPG Maker with only basic coding knowledge and YouTube tutorials?
Are you implying that Notch isn't successful?
connections...in which no one has!
>Well I know he didn't cry about it on Yea Forums, and neither did any of the other actually successful devs that got their start here.
Speaking about devs who got their starts on Yea Forums, are there any archives of their first threads that I can look at? I'm curious.
>And his music is shit.
He made a deal with satan.
bros, is it possible to sell a game made with RPG Maker if it is a pirated version of it?
This, I remember post limit threads for the first few weeks the demo came out.
That said, it spawned some degenerate fetishes
Is anyone going to know that it's pirated? Probably not. I'd say go for it.
>it's bad just because it doesn't appeal to me
>it's not unique because its unique qualities don't appeal to me
how narcissistic
This
Toby was already popular because of his work on Homestuck, I don't know why people tend to conveniently forget that. The quality of Undertale is almost inconsequential, he was bound for success no matter what.
He's talented and he knew the right people. That's precisely what you need to be successful in this world.
He wears lipstick, I can tell.
pandered to furfags and motherfags which are too extremely autistic and dedicated groups
>and his music is shit
Nigga what
Just how big do you guys think homestuck was, it's a fucking drop compared to the success undertale reached
you're probably right
fuck it, I'll work on my game, thanks bro
I wanted to make my own music for my project but I'm a total beginner. How long would it take until I'm ClownCore levels of good?
Easy. Have furry or quirky characters that make a lot of jokes, and have an emotionally manipulative story and ending.
Are you fucking kidding me, Homestuck is the biggest webcomic on the net and has a huge following
It had a fanbase to rival the western 2hu fanbase or ponyfags
Yes, Undertale is bigger NOW, but that's not to say Homestuck wasn't big.
No problem, man. Post a thread about it sometime!
I'll never succeed in anything I try, I could never be like Toby so I'll just breath, eat, and shit until I'm dead
Andrew? Andrew Hussie? Is that you?
Andrew, I can't and won't make this any simpler for you.
You failed at life. You failed. When one thinks of what man is capable of, pushing himself to the limits physically, mentally and emotionally to achieve heights of success never before mentioned, your name will not be whispered in the same, reverent fashion that others have.
Nobody will remember Andrew Hussie. You aren't even a header or a footer in the career of someone else. You are nobody. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
In short, you are an enormous failure.
Andrew, being that you're about 35 years old and your brain has probably hard-wired itself to accept such failures by now and write off such criticism by being "flippant", really suggests that you've passed beyond the proverbial breaking-point. There's no turning back. This is your career, this is what defines you and this is what you'll defend to the end.
The abhorrent failure that is MS Paint Comics, Andrew Hussie, that is your legacy.
Maybe I'm over-reaching, however. Who knows? People CAN change. Maybe you'll read this, Andrew, and think long and hard about what a wasteful life you've led. Maybe you'll think, "wow. It's incredible just how abysmal and pathetic I really AM!" Maybe you'll lift some weights in the morning. Maybe you'll take a self-help class.
Maybe in a couple of years, Andrew, you'll have learned from this failure. I doubt it, though.
I genuinely doubt it.
Now excuse me, I have to work on DELTARUNE, compose for Game Freak's Little Town Hero, and Sans just got confirmed for Smash Ultimate. My accountant estimates over sixty million dollars in sales, and my place in video game history will forever be cemented
Forgot to mention catchy music as well.
If you were playing TF2 or L4D2 in 2013, the year the Undertale demo released, you were most definitely a 13 year old or a massive faggot
>was born into a good country and a good family probably
>worked very hard
>talented
>made friends with *ndrew H*ssie
So he has the right attitude and was in the right place at the right time, that's pretty much the recipe for success.
He is only economically successful he is socially fucked
now let me see that game
so?
It is possible, but I wouldn't do that, and I'm really into piracy. The only reason why companies go after somebody is when they make a lot of money. I recommend you get RPG Maker on a discount if you want to sell your games. Keep up the work on your games, and good luck!
These threads make me very happy I don't give half about coding or making my own video game, I just like playing and talking about them.
Besides the fact that you'd have to be a retard to even think that the Homestuck fandom is bigger than what the undertale fandom quickly turned into if undertale hadn't been able to stood by its own merits. You are really overestimating how much audience Homestuck had and how much audience a product made by someone barely related to it would have gotten only by association
>Homestuck
Goddam I hate that fanbase with a passion.
Imagine if Toby Fox said the same thing 6 years ago.
JUST FUCKING DO IT
Almost as bad as the Smash fandom, to be honest, and Toby is part of both. Maybe we have found his secret?
It doesn't matter that Undertale stands on its own merits or that it is now bigger than Homestuck. What matters is that he already had a following. You don't get it. Try being an absolute nobody and posting your thing without a group of people to help you spread it. It's fucking difficult. Look at how many indie games on Steam go completely unnoticed, for instance. There's tons of Undertale quality games out there - the game is absolutely nothing special when it comes to the indie world. But Toby knew the right people and had a pre-existing following, so it was much easier for the game to blow up.
>lol bro he's a millionaire but also a beta what a LOSER LMAO
You are underage.
Brought something new to the table in a very stagnant genre
A DEAL'S A DEAL user
You realize that he went under "Radiation" at that point, and only the most dedicated of autistic fucks even knew THAT name.
The Earthbound Halloween Hack was also pretty popular, and that was back when he used Radiation, too.
I'm not saying he didn't have to build a following, but I am saying his popularity is no mistake and his path to success was made much easier by knowing Andrew Hussie and having a pre-existing following.
Did you know that, in the publishing world, most publishers won't even give you the time of day if you don't have a large pre-existing following?
If your ideal is to be famous, you're already starting with the wrong frame of mind so you're no loss to anyone.
>The only unsuccessful indie dev that actively posted here is Yanderedev
What? There are plenty of unsuccessful indie devs that post here, probably at least a hundred
And I'm one of them
Was homestuck really so big? Says it launched in 2009. I honestly don't remember it at all. Sure I heard the name a couple times but that's about it and about all I know of it.
Then again only webcomic I ever really followed was cyanide and happiness till around 2010-2011 or so.
>And his music is shit
Your taste is shit. Undertale was mediocre, but the music was great.
