A good midway point between the brevity and functionality of the designs in 1 and the Tales of designs in 2.

They updated the faces to look modern and in line with 2, yet kept the simple style which I always loved. 10/10 - this is how you do it!

They really did Tanaka's design proper this time around. Updated X models would make me rock solid, but I'll take this for now.

Its not about being surprised, its that they improved Fiora except it was an upgrade racked up to 110% percent up

X2 really helped them get better at translating art into 3d models. Probably thanks to all the different artists they worked with.

KOS-MOS wasn't generic when Xenosaga was new.
In fact she was in multiple otaku magazines and given constant praise for her original design.
If anything, she made the design generic since a lot of modern sci-fi anime girls are directly inspired from KOS-MOS's design.

The plot will completely go off the rails and deviate from Xenoblade 1 halfway through and establish that it's actually a Xenoblade 3 disguised as a remake of Xenoblade 1.

We get to learn more about Alvis/Ontos, Galea/Meyneth, see a third side of Zanza/Klaus/Architect

Logos respawns in this third universe and that's where the plot begins to deviate fro the original.

Xeno started with Blade 1 for most people, and it's used Tanaka less often than it has anyone else.

I'm not so sure, the world and lore is so dense you really need the slower pace of actually playing the game and soaking in the world, reading the database, talking to npcs etc. Just suck it up, use turbo mode in dungeons and combat if you're emulating. Combat and dungeons get better with each version but the story and cinematics are the best in ep I.

Xenoblade 1 had quite a bit of cut content, including a complete area in the game's files that is possible to walk around via hacking, but it had no enemies or NPCs. They showed that area in the trailer.

Because Square had no faith in the game which is why they kept cutting its budget and pushing forward the deadline. In their eyes, "Xeno" means generic anime, the series has to copy old anime and never try anything unique or it's not good.

Budgeting and time issues with Xenogears and it unfortunately didn't perform as well as initially expected to warrant a sequel. Plus Square wanted most of Xenogears team to work on Final Fantasies instead so the Xenogears team said "Fuck you" and went to go work on Xenosaga as Monolith and continue Perfect Works.

Xenosaga was initially a success and in some ways it still is. In Japan it's still considered the face of Xeno. The reason why Xenosaga failed was because Bandai Namco gave Xenosaga 2 to a less experienced team and forced Takahashi to work on a different game. Xenosaga 2 ended up being awful and thus didn't sell well. The series had to end with Xenosaga 3, despite being as great as 3 was, because Xenosaga 2 did irreparable damage to the series in popularity, plot and sales.
He's rebooting Perfect Works starting with Xenoblade 2.

It doesnt get super anime until the last act. Until then the anime is there but its presented in a way that I wouldnt really call subtle but it just kinda happens and you just go with the flow. The game is really a pretty basic shonen plot thats presented decently well. The final act beats you over the head with it but it doesnt take away from the overall experience

I could never get into the game because of all the pointless fetch quests it shoves at you. Item hunting is what killed the game for me and why I never made it past when you're supposed to go to Prison Island. It wasn't fun running around trying to hope a random field drop is the item you need, over and over. That isn't engaging gameplay, it's fucking busywork to pad out your play time. I don't own a switch but I pray XC2 doesn't have the same issue.

Honestly the UI would have to be pretty reworked, but you just need to give the world a little more color and fix the faces and performance, and viola.

Not as much. There is a quest early on for a particular item that is a little rarer then it should be, since it only drops from specific points, but as long as you are constantly going to gathering spots, you should always have what you need. Nothing is fucking Rainbow whatever levels of rare and the drops can be increased with field skills.

I only had to farm twice, once at the start of the game for Confusion Ivy on a small side quest and then when getting the final form of Poppi, as I was missing salvage stuff from a later game area. But it didn't take that long.

Luckily, XC2 doesn't do that at all. Only one Titan with some shitty quests that don't require any items and those quests really don't give you much. Everything outside of that can be completed whenever you want.

This game is perfect for you, because the game puts a clock icon next to a sidequest if there's a cutoff point. If there's no clock you can do the quest at any point in the game.
This game is genius.

I'm not anti-Blade but I recall Xenosaga fans complaining that Blade felt like a shitty normalfag shonen while Xenosaga and Xenogears felt like they were made for actual anime fans when Xenoblade 1 was new.
Xenosaga fans are some of the most pretentious fanbases in the fucking gaming industry.

They are definitely next on the chopping board. The only reason they are doing XC1 first is to get the dipshits who didn't play XC1 up to date with what was happening in the other universe. Takahashi will likely use this chance to properly tie 1 to 2 together and maybe throw in some bait or a connection to X as well. Maybe even a teaser for the future. I said in a previous XC1 thread I hope this game teases XC3-X2. I'm a strong believer that the Conduit did teleport to Mira and it'll play a strong part in the next game behind the scenes.

I enjoyed Chronicles' story but I don't understand why so many people worship the ground it walks on. It's just a stock anime story, it doesn't do anything particularly impressive or new. It doesn't have political intrigue like Geneology of the Holy War (the Sigurd half anyway, the Seliph half is kinda just a retread of Marth's story and as a result is nowhere near as interesting). It doesn't do environment-based storytelling like Dark Souls. It isn't a cool historical fiction drama like Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It doesn't go fucking off the wall insane like Drakengard (admittedly that game is barely an RPG). It's not grand scale in the way Suidoken 2 is. It doesn't have grounded characters put in an extraordinary set of circumstances like Earthbound. It isn't even one continuous story throughout the years which is impressive just for sticking to narrative for decades like the Rance series. It's just "good".

There's nothing wrong with it, but you niggers overrate it way too much when it tried to do nothing to advance the genre in terms of storytelling.

It was the only huge RPG the Wii ever got, and it wasn't just huge by Wii standards, but by RPG standards as a whole and did novel shit like have the world you travel on be literally the body of a colossal dormant titan, allowing you to see other parts of its body(locations) off in the distance.

And then once X and especially 2 came out it became a tool for shitting on those games for having the absolute gall to be different or, god forbid, have nice-looking faces.

Ok but I'm talking in terms of storytelling. What you're describing is atmosphere and gameplay. Say what you want about Gears disk 2 (it's shit), but at least it tried to do something different narratively. Granted it never intended to do that different thing and it was forced on them, and I think it actually hurt the game and I don't think many will disagree there, but having a big mainstream RPG basically become a VN in its second half is something you didn't see in videogames back then.

Most jrpgs story are just shit. Xenoblade was mostly inoffensive, and the characters are likeable so people liked it. It’s about execution too, which it did well enough.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions will be the ultimate test to see if Nintendo has done away with the WiiU era censorship. Fuck that was an annoying time.

Maybe the definitive edition's cut content could change that?

It's worshipped for its story because it's a shonen story. It's a story where Shulk(You) is the hero, against all odds, and all the game's events are centered around him. By contrast, X is a story about BLADE, Elma, and all of humanity, while 2 is a story about Jin, Malos, Pyra, and Mythra. Shonen stories are all about wish fulfillment and making the viewer(player) feel special vicariously through their self-insert. X and 2 do not do this, with 2 getting an extra helping of SHIT WAIFU HAREM NEPTUNIA CRINGE because Yea Forums is practically a 15th century puritan society and the main girls dress provocatively.

None of this means that XC1 necessarily has a bad story. It's executed very well, but it tosses all other major characters to the wayside for the sake of the main protagonist.
