+ has some nice additions and I personally like the updated sprites (not so much the music), but Nicalis is scum and you shouldn't give them a single cent. Either play the original free version or pirate +, and then buy a copy of Kero Blaster to support Pixel.

Kero Blaster is hard to compare. It's more "Megaman" than Cave Story's linear-metroid feeling, but it's a good game (Overtime Mode in particular). Beware of pit instadeaths.
Couch Co-op is fun.

Generally they add different graphics, arrangements of the music,and extra challenge modes. The Switch version has local co-op and an extra challenge mode or two not in other versions.

Yes. I think they forgot to add Hard Curly/Easy Curly on Switch since the 3DS had those options.

Pixel who? Nicalis created Cave Story themselves, silly.

The story goes "Nicalis tricked Pixel into giving them the Cave Story rights, which is why he got a different publisher for Kero Blaster and how Nicalis has the freedom to include Cave Story characters wherever they want". However, Pixel is still in contact with Nicalis (signed 25 random physical copies of Cave Story+ Switch and got a Balrog keychain gift) and hopefully in good enough terms to continue receiving payment since his name is still present in all ports (both intro and credits, as per usual).
