Same stage in the remake. Chunky, cobbled-together messes of shapes that look like clay or play-doh. Nearly complete absence of color, bright and washed out with zero saturation. Sky is barely visible (a problem in many stages like Idol Springs) and what little is there contains none of the mystic hues of the original, just muddy foggy greys and whites. And lizard brains still say that "soul" doesn't exist.

The remake version of 3 is the same as the original, except they actually removed the epilogue from the original after you get all the skill points.

Granted, it was like a storybook that you flip around seeing the fate of the characters, but it was an okay reward to an otherwise bland 3rd game.

The one in the remake looks better. I get it was a hardware limitation, but the buildings in the original look like simple shapes, with the texture stretched over them. The buildings in the remake look like actual buildings, with actual details, like trim and overhangs. The remake looks like what the original would have looked like had the creators actually had good enough hardware.

Spyro's a dragon, he's got to have scales. If it was designed by furries they'd have given every dragon pawpads and fur. Yeah, the ambient felt different but still it's close enough to the ot not to feel alien.

Different guy. Here's the thing though. No, it doesn't "curve like a mountain slope should". Look at a close up of a mountain, one that is as close to the photographer as spyro is to the mountain. It has bumps and crevices, and while spyro is going for a more cartoony look, it still holds this fact.
I guess if I could compare it to anything, and I mean no offense to the original devs because, again, hardware limitaions of the time, it'd be comparing a kids drawings to those that a professional cartoonist remade. Sure, you can tell what the kids drawing were, but the professional gives them more detail because he doesn't lack the limitations that the child does.

1. Mountains viewed are shaped like the mountain in the original rather than Reignited
2. Reignited's chunky cobble mountain still fails to capture the kind of texture displayed in your image, the Reignited mountain is grotesque to look at in comparison
3. Spyro takes place in an idealized cartoon world. Almost every fantastical depiction of a mountain I've ever seen looks more akin to it does in the original game where the devs clearly tried to blend that smooth sloping into the soft colors for that zen fantasy aesthetic

The original environments carry with them a sort of mystic element to them. The new designs may "look" better but they don't have the same essence. I've never even played Spyro and this is easy to see.

The fact they largely ignored the original maps, however, is a definite misstep, and I feel that if they kept the colours details the same it would have been great.

As remasters go, I'm more upset about the bioshock collection. You can't make artstyle arguments because it's going for realism, and the quality largely seems inadequate for current standards.

A lot of the time, it just feels like they stuck a sheen on the original, especially with bioshock 2, where differences are barely there at all. And in all honesty, said sheen looks too plastic, I preferred the wet look of the original.

I can only speak for playing the originals, but I don't recall ever getting to the point I didn't know where to go, even including the fact I never used the map. Don't want to just go "git gud", but there's a chance that's more a you problem than the game inherently problem.

It's not a game where you unlock stuff.
Most of the time, any given ledge you want to try to get to but can't either is a case of some other ledge you have to find farther in the level to jump off of, or you genuinely just need to git gud, get the feeling this case is the former.
