Most useless skills/abilities in vidya

Name a more useless skill in any game than Skyrims pickpocket skill.

Attached: pickpocketskyrim.jpg (1920x1080, 334K)

Overwatch in X-Com.

Skyrim's Speech tree

Except you can literally steal weapons, armor and accessories with a few points in the tree and eventually even the weapon people have equipped. Have you even played the game or are you shitposting? It's fucking crazy how rich you get by pickpocketing in Skyrim.

You get rich in Skyrim by breathing. You don't need to disarm people because you can just backstab them instead.

Only in XCOM 2. Its useful in EU/EW. Dont know about og xcoms.

Lockpicking is much more useless.

All Black Magic in Final Fantasy 3. It's literally useless. I went through the whole game with one guy as a magic user. Even made him a Scholar, just to find out online that magic is useless, not just against the final boss, but every fucking enemy. Made him a Dark Knight and finally beat Cloud of Darkness after a 3 month break from the game. That was years ago now.

Baby's first RPG

Yeah, but the thing is that you can get all of that stuff by yourself with smithing, buying, killing, or just finding the items in the world. Dumping points into pickpocket is not worth it at all, unless you want to keep going to jail ever 1 out of 5 times you pickpocket, and thats at the higher levels. Or you want to savescum, but then whats the point? Hell, I played a khajiit thief, and I ignored that skill completely.

The language skills are terrible in Daggerfall. Just use calm spells.

Attached: bartender1.jpg (1920x1080, 115K)

It's a different playstyle, dumb dumb. If you don't want to smith or buy shit, you steal it out of people's pockets. It's your fault for not using it, but it's far fro museless. Speech is the truly useless one without mods.

It's the only useful skill in Enemy Unknown.

This looks like someone holding a dick.

Isn't there a spell in FF1 that just doesn't do anything whatsoever?

In the NES version yeah
TMPR is a white magic spell that is supposed to buff attack power but doesn't

Environmental training in Deus ex

What's wrong with longer timers on items?

If there was more than a couple places where they're useful, nothing. But none of the areas you use the consumables to get through, aside from the sea floor lab section where you really need a rebreather or ballistic vests if you're going full assault, are long enough for the extended timer to matter.

90% of shit in FF games, and in JRPGS in general, is completely useless and only there for flavor.

incels' ability to reproduce

Oh that's easy. Fran LMR1 in FFRK.
>30% chance to stun enemies when using support skills while equipped with a bow
>all bosses in the game are immune to stun

Attached: serveimage.png (256x256, 22K)

But thats not the skill that is useless, its the incel himself.

Attached: ResistCorprusDisease.png (215x73, 14K)

How dare you, this is one of the best

You aren't very good then.

Overwatch is OP as shit in Enemy Unknown.

>pickpocket
>worthless

Maxing out pickpocket pretty much allows you to train for free since you can steal back the gold you pay for training.

What's really worthless is Speech.

t. Geon

>doesn't even have the imagination to roleplay a little bit
>m-m-muh classes! skyrim is not a real RPG!

>never did pickpocket before
>take one skill point in it
>everyone suddenly has 70-100 gold, covered in jewels, and everything is easy to pickpocket

Still a retarded mechanic, its basically designed for save scumming. Getting caught isn't light enough to just roll with it, and its not reliable enough to avoid save scumming.

Took me 8 years to notice the nebula behind the skills was in the shape of the thief, wizard, and warrior

Goodberry in baldur's gate.

are there any AOE support skills?

The wax key perk from the lockpicking tree.

WHY would you need a copy of a key to a lock you already fucking picked?

Attached: 1550674561212.png (480x480, 97K)

Thermoptic camo was OK

There is one that hits 4 random targets. It's not widely used because it's garbage.

>It's not widely used because it's garbage.
what does stunning even do? sounds like that paired with the ability could stun nearly half them.

You talkin NES or DS version? Because if you are talking DS version then you are a fucking moron, as BLM is strong as fuck during the first third of the game. Though I admit it becomes pretty redundant after the 1/3 point.

>unlock novice door
>get key to every door nearby, including that master door and the master chest

thats all I could think of when I saw it.

It's paralyze.

But here's the thing about FFRK. Literally all the relevant content is status-immune and has been for years. Anything that could possibly be stunned is so weak it will die in one hit.

Furthermore the only "Support" skills anyone uses are entrust, wrath, and occasionally stat breaks, though most people take "Dance" abilities for that because they hit multiple stats, which Fran can also use.

Furthermore, bows are statistically the worst weapon type. And this takes up a slot where your WORST POSSIBLE OPTION is usually a flat 10% damage bonus.

Well then you're almost illiterate as the perk description plainly says that it only copies the lock you just unlocked.

It copies the key for the lock.
So it would give you the guard key, or if theres some dungeon key it would give you the dungeon key.

Actual bumbling retard

Brainlet
Env training makes items like body armour last for ages and make you nearly invincible. Env training costs nothing to max out and can replace about 5 augs/skills if you engage your brain

It increases their strength too.

Plus it's funny walking through cities and the entire guard is walking around unarmed and in their underwear

>you can steal back the gold you pay for training.
To a point. If they've too much gold you've a 0% chance of success regardless of skill.

It was amazing. There are certain lasers and traps that require two augs to skip, or use a thermo camo.

Resistance in Dark Souls

you are bad at XCom

I think the if you lockpick the door to an NPC's home, it gets relocked the next night. So, you use lockpicking to break into a place once and loot it, wait however many days for valuables inside to restock, and then use your copied to to freely unlock the door and loot it again.

The lock that you picked not any lock in the vicinity that matches it either thematically or by level. Literally just the lock you already opened and will 99.9999% never fucking unlock ever again.

The 50 extra encumbrance isn't so bad. The entire lockpicking tree is worth less than that perk.

in Skyrim, anything but Conjuration and Alteration is useless, and will only make you weaker because of level scaling.

That is, if you actually play the game and not use it as a gone home tier walking simulator

Blue Magic in FFX.

It's for the "people" that actually enjoy doing radiant quests. If they are playing as a thief and get a repeated quest to break into some dude's house they can use the wax key

I was going to say, OP posted his own foil.

Clearly it was for you
In good RPGs you have to specialize in theft/stealth and deal with the consequences when you fuck up
In Skyrim you become the most rich and powerful entity to ever exist just by finishing a few quest lines

Almost everything you can steal or earn in skyrim is objectively inferior to something you can craft yourself in 5 minutes. Theft in skyrim is completely pointless because you never feel like you need to.

It's not that the skill itself is bad. But it's a wrong choice for this build since it lack a 'seduction' skill to actually get to use 'reproduce'.
They should replace it with a skill that is actually usefull to the incel class like '+10% accuraccy when mass shooting' or something.

>Maxing out pickpocket pretty much allows you to train for free since you can steal back the gold you pay for training.

if there is no better use for it that makes it effectively the same as not having it.

kek

>Almost everything you can steal or earn in skyrim is objectively inferior to something you can craft yourself in 5 minutes
true, and the crafting is infuriatingly awful, so you are fucked if you do, fucked if you don't.

Many players love to level stuff like Sneak, Pickpocket, Lockpicking, Smithing, and then vary across armor types, magic and weapons.

Instead, try leveling only one type of battle configuration (e.g. two handed, heavy armor) and see how much easier the game gets because of scaling.

>free training
>bad

training gets ludicrously expensive as your skills go up, and its really the only effective way to level some skills, particularly enchanting.

Except radiant quests change every time and the chance of getting the exact same location for the exact same task is tantamount to none, by the time that even happens you'd be completely maxed out and have the skill by coincidence.
I don't know why exactly you're adamantly defending it, but you couldn't even be assed to know anything about what you're trying to defend in the first place.

It's not like they can avoid leveling lockpick considering there are no spells that unlock shit.

>Conjuration and Alteration
Why are these two so great?

Illusion is good in skyrim though, you can easily dispatch camps by making them kill each other.

>in Skyrim, anything but Sneak and Archery is useless, and will only make you weaker because of level scaling
FTFY

Maybe some people like to role-play in this role-playing game instead of being a boring min-maxing faggot who always takes the shortest path to success. Holy fucking shit.

That's my first post in the thread actually. No one's adamantly defending anything you fucking faggot. I got repeating quests trying to become guild master, had to break into one house in windhelm 3 times.

yup, that one is good as well. anything really as long as you just focus on one type of configuration and strictly ignore the rest

>conjure
more targets to draw attention
>alteration
magic armor

most shitty boring way to play but effective

temptation is a big part of stealing, if there's no temptation you literally have to force yourself to have fun with the mechanic.

also, conjurations and followers ignore penalties from playing on high difficulty.

Loremaster in Divinity 2
Literally wasting your point, identifying items in stores is cheap and almost all stores have level 5 loremaster anyway
Literally pick anything else

In Kingdom of Amalur Lockpicking and Mercantile are always useless.

I remember seeing some resist corprus disease spells in morrowind, that was funny.

Doesn't it also reveal more enemy info or was that just in DOS1?

i've used ordinator so long i dont even remember the vanilla perks.

ordinator perks are shitty because they try too hard to give every tree combat focused perks.

Rogue Legacy had Retribution gear, Death Defy, and Haggle. Retribution gear has shit stats in exchange for a bonus that rewards shitty gameplay. Death Defy is expensive to invest in, almost never triggers, and once again is only helpful when you're shit at the game. Haggle only has a tangible benefit when you enter the castle without spending all your money, which you should never fucking do. Zors tried to fix Haggle by discounting the architect instead but that's shit too since you only use the architect for boss fights and fairy chests.

they are also overpowered as all hell. but its not like im playing skyrim for a challenge.

It does, but you can see with a quick glance their type. Even a monkey knows not to throw fire spells to enemy that is named "Fire elemental"
There are some bit tricky enemies with their resistances and talents, but loremaster is completely useless on second playthrough at least

sneak, speech and pickpocket are absolute garbage in Skyrim and you should never even look at these skills. but speech hurts because what could have been a great RPG with dialogue solutions is now reduced to a shallow murder simulator anyway. Speech is actually useful in F:NV but in Skyrim it's so meaningless you really just skip all the convo and start murdering like a madman.

and to think Todd removed mysticism, spears, athletics and acrobatics to keep that stupid shit in. what the fuck for?

No like functionally, there's a few spells in the first game that are glitched. They're supposed to do something, but the coding is broken. You do the spell animation and then... nothing.

I just use a sneak arrow desu.

>DB questline
>kill gaius maro the son
>he's in castle dour where all the guards sleep in beds
>sneak arrow that fuck
>that retard thinks it was one of his camerades
>smacks one of them
>they go apeshit on him
>deal the final blow with an arrow because NPCs can't kill him off

Attached: 1567544238957.jpg (1278x1065, 79K)

I wonder what sort of retard would actually invest in lockpicking perks. waste of perks.

ctrl+f swimming not found
Deus Ex

I swear bunch of fucking children

yeah haha i read that meme once too lol

are you one of these handicapped chaps who have trouble with facial recognition too?

>pick pocket
>useless
What skyrim were you playing?

At least it's still possible to roleplay in Daggerfall with useful skills, and it's not like there's no mod that fixes language skills.

its worth a single point

Honestly Speech in stuff like New Vegas instead of being useless is just straight up overpowered, I think people feel like they have to pick it as an option or they'll suboptimally miss out on a tiny bit extra of exp, even if their character is like a meathead with 2 intelligence and 1 charisma who is violent. Even if they would rather murder then NPC.

they just fucking left it in because they didn't have time to remove it.

MW was to Bethesda what FF1 was to Squaresoft. they were both on the brink of bankruptcy.

Fuck Todd though. He's such an over-compensating dick now, bragging about buying Tesla and wearing his expensive cafe racer all the time and all that.

>2 intelligence

you do know that NV literally has brainlet dialogue options, right? I don't know if the high speech skill is affected by it but it would be terrible since it just doesn't make any sense.

>I think people feel like they have to pick it as an option or they'll suboptimally miss out on a tiny bit extra of exp
It's funny and sad how this led to a single case where gunning for the skill check dialogue option actually gave a negative result, there should have been more of these moments.

Attached: Dean_Domino.jpg (900x643, 156K)

>never did a poisoner build where you reverse pickpocket poison

It's like you don't know how to have fun. You must be fun at parties.

Survival in Fallout NV was pretty worthless, stimpacks were all you needed.

This was really disappointing, especially since there was so much put into it with the recipes and poisons and such, it's really too bad the game never puts any pressure on you to ever need it

Yeah it does but those are few and far from eachother, and also kind of jarring since they didn't fully commit so you got from speaking like your average dude in some conversation to suddenly having "me Mongo want thing you give. NOW"

That was fucking brilliant, I too wish there was more like that. Just enough not to be like "ha ha gotcha" but just for the sake of like "you had good intentions but it backfired, did you not notice the kind of person you were dealing with?"

The problem is that it's not even an option if you wanna improve your character
Houses NEVER have good gear
Houses NEVER have tools worth picking up
It's not even an interactive experience as there's no risk
Game actively pushes you away from that option because the only thing breaking in would get you is a cum filled half broken goblet or something

>you had good intentions but it backfired, did you not notice the kind of person you were dealing with?
Yeah the game pretty much warns you that it's best if you just go along with him instead of fighting for control, most just forget that the moment they see the brackets for the skill check when meeting him and assume it won't piss him off and make him want to kill you later. Granted I do prefer killing him than letting him live considering the live route feels odd with him letting go after having been obsessed with Sierra Madre for far longer than any other character in the dlc.

New Vegas's "you must be this high to use this skill" is utter retardation. Why the fuck play a game if you know the exact outcome for every decision to make?
Fallout 3, while a very imperfect game, at least got skill checks right - there's always a percentage chance you will fail, which adds a sense of challenge to what would otherwise be just ticking a button and automatically "winning" some outcome. Plus it's easier to design a game around a percentage system (dumping points into a skill actually matters, instead of needing to dump 10 - 20 at a time before it's reflected in gameplay).
>b-but people will just save scum!
...so? Who are you to say they can't? Or won't for any other instance where the game doesn't go in their favor? If your line of thinking that save scumming is bad, then we might as well just lock down the whole game because at any point someone might want to save scum anyway.
!!FACT!!

Yeah it's not like other games where there are vaults full of valuable shit you can steal to quickly get rich. There's no incentive, no temptation.

Skyrims speech skill

You're a retard

You also do not start at the very bottom, you get armor a tier better than you should've been using early on, you can easily kill shit right at the beginning, you get shouts early and you being effective with every weapon type means you do not care about the type of gear you pick up, just that you pick it up which in turn means you'll always have good stuff at hand

>Conjuration in vanilla skyrim
nigga you fucking stupid

Attached: cringeblackman.jpg (1300x1065, 90K)

Plenty of other more useless trees in skyrim. Pickpocket perks and skill level directly enhances your pickpocket ability. Which can be applied to any living npc with an inventory. Also a great core to roleplay.

Speech, light armor, lockpicking, and restoration are far worse off.
No matter what kind of roleplay character youre building, you cant level these trees or rationalise putting points into them. Their perks are low impact and the skills are so rarely applied ontop of that.

>RNG adds challenge to a skill check
found the retard. why the fuck would there be a chance to fail if you pass the check? whats the point? And you do realize there is a chance to randomly succeed a check despite having low skill for it? thats fucking stupid. Besides all you have to is save scum until you get the pass RNG. wow what a great design.

>light armor
Nigga what, light armor is fucking great if you're doing a rogue playstyle

>sneak, speech and pickpocket are absolute garbage in Skyrim
Sneak and pickpocket were as useful as they were in the rest of the series. Speech is particularly useful in trading.

>mysticism
Replaced by enchanting and alteration, which served the same purpose combined.
>spears
Spears being removed was a shame, but 2 handed skill would serve the same role.
>athletics
Just alter your stamina capacity faggot.
>acrobatics
There should've been a way to alter your jump height, but the acrobatic skill in MW and oblivion was a dump skill you'd never choose as your main.

In comparison to any other tree you could invest into for that roleplay, light armor is a trash choice.

The armor itself is more than enough. The only non armor perks are 10% chance to evade, and 50% stamina regen. Strictly worse survivability and stamina scaling than enchanting for health/stamina increases.

Even then, the best light armor is gated behind smithing for dragon scale.

Pickpocket didn't exist in previous games
Alteration already existed in previous games
2 handed skills don't even remotely serve the same role as spears in any way
Athletics had no effect on fatigue capacity
Acrobatics was an extremely useful skill to pick as a minor skill in Morrowind since it let you train strength by just spamming jumps and that's a game where you can literally fucking fly
Maybe you should play games before speaking like a fucking authority about them when you're such a cockgobbling turbocasual that you didn't even fucking play Oblivion

sneak is the second strongest skill in the game though

>And you do realize there is a chance to randomly succeed a check despite having low skill for it?
Oh no there's a 1 percent chance of winning a speech check if your speech is 1/100...so? It's like that in the real world. Why are you so averse to acknowledging the role luck plays in literally everything in real life? Also complaining about that is akin to complaining about finding rare loot.
>Besides all you have to is save scum until you get the pass RNG. wow what a great design.
Anyone can save scum at any point in a game if something isn't going their way. Obviously we should just delete all video games from existence because we can't let people do such a horrible atrocity.
RNG is still better then having to lump dump a bunch of points into something when levelling up because the game only considers you "better" at something if you do it in small steps. That's far far more retarded and bad game design. While we're at it let's make the game completely predictable by making it so that if you reach a certain skill level you can pass whatever you want lol now that's great game design lmfao.

>Alteration already existed in previous games
But in Skyrim it was more useful.
>2 handed skills don't even remotely serve the same role as spears in any way
Are you retarded. I said it would. 2 handed or 1 handed, depends on what kind of spear weapon it is.
>Athletics had no effect on fatigue capacity
Because before Skyrim there was no sprinting.
>Acrobatics was an extremely useful skill to pick as a minor skill in Morrowind since it let you train strength by just spamming jumps
So, only useful as an exploitation skill, not because it's useful in itself?
>didn't even fucking play Oblivion
I've played them all except arena retarded fag.

so it's bad game design for a skill to be useful?

itt: savescumming minmaxers

>Because before Skyrim there was no sprinting.
user, I...

>But in Skyrim it was more useful.
Not really since it literally does the same things it did in previous games (or less in the case of Morrowind)
>Are you retarded. I said it would. 2 handed or 1 handed, depends on what kind of spear weapon it is.
Spears in Morrowind had almost double the reach of the longest two handed blades and more than that for the longest battleaxes and warhammers. They also leveled Endurance instead of Strength.
>Because before Skyrim there was no sprinting.
That has absolutely nothing to do with the effect of athletics
>So, only useful as an exploitation skill, not because it's useful in itself?
It was useful because its governing stat was useful. Same reason spears were useful in spite of (in the vanilla game) having no powerful endgame weapons.

>I've played them all except arena retarded fag.
Clearly you haven't since you're posting things that are strictly incorrect about both Oblivion and Morrowind

>he didn't level up sneak and pick pocket to duck in midcombat and strip their opponent of literally everything

what? are you serious?

>Name a more useless skill in any game than Skyrims pickpocket skill.
The ability to kill people, since everyone and their mother are invincible anyway.

There's a skill in dragon quest 7 and it's only purpose is telling you what's the name of the place you are

There's a similar skill in star ocean 2 whose purpose is being told hints and joke by the developer of the game

heavy armor in fire emblem three houses
why the fuck would i want to level a skill that doesn't do anything except help my character unlock classes that gimp their best stat?

True, but handicapping yourself and not using Stimpacks is really fun, especially since otherwise Survival is a dump stat as you said

I loved the idea in Bethesda RPGs to wait until dark and then break in houses and steal their stuff. But you get like 50 gold/caps worth of stuff and entry level tier weapons out of it, and that's it. Sure is fun to roleplay that shit.
