The game is good and once you get the flying ability the fun factor really amps up.. but it's a $30 dollar title. The story isn't particularly engaging because the story is presented so far out from the get go that it never ground itself with the player, and brutalist office enviroment gets samey and stale.

Help a terrorist elf or capture his ass with your bro Vernon. No woman-saving.
You are doing all of this to track down a man who killed the king from the first quest because he framed you.
You find that guy and he fucks you up. You can also choose to have sex with Triss, the game doesn't force you to.
Triss gets kidnapped and you have to save her from... other women in the Lodge of Sorcerreses.
So now you either help defend a town of non-humans or help siege it down. To do this you have to remove a magical mist.
To do this you have to get a bunch of ingredients from some catacombs. No woman-saving happens.
On one of the paths you have to "save" a "woman"(dragon) from poisoning. She was poisned by an evil man so I guess you get this one on a technicality. However the woman is still under a spell from another sorcerres.
Now you go to a super old precursor city(loc muinne) where shit really goes tits up and depending on your choices a bunch of sorcerreses get slaughtered. You can't save them and most of them were evil manipulators.

I think that she's specifically female because she can be. A sci-fi fantasy protagonist with magical powers has no real-world limitations that contribute to the implausibility of a female protagonist. Other Remedy protagonists have pretty much had attributes that fit better with male characters. If I didn't know better that would seem like a fairly anti-equality design choice. But I know they chose a female protagonist because they hadn't had one before.

A proper RPG, you know a glod one, would give you a character with a loose background at worst while giving you a slew of options to establish your character's personality throughout the game.
