>escort mission where the side character doesn't follow you half the time
>weird menu UI
>crawling in holes
literally worse than 3, the 2nd worst of the main 4.
1 = 2 > 3 >>> 4 >>>> homecoming >> downpour

Its such a good silent hill game it wasn't even developed as one!

>the only good silent hill game isn't a silent hill game
really makes you think

2 was better, and also "good."

2 is nothing but melodrama

never played 1...too old looking...had saturn, not ps1

hell even 3 was better than 4...I like these games more for aesthetics though.

based contrarian zoomer

> counting any silent hill other than 1,2,3 and 4

that's been debunked, it was always a silent hill game

1 is best

right my bad

Why not?

non-team-silent games aren't canon

No. It's the worst SH game made by team silent.

it's the only good thing team silent did

A few people laughed, a few people took the bait, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita...

no canon silent hills, not made by the original team, even 4 is stretching a bit, because almost none of the original team still remains.

no it was japanese people trying to be edgy/meta by making the game intentionally nightmarish and unenjoyable. So deep

Why would I care if they are canon or not?
It's not like most of their connection is superficial and they all follow a single story line.

I liked The Evil Within more than Resident Evil 4.

...this is the shit opinions thread, right?

Shattered Memories was interesting, and Origins wasn't that bad.

no reason, but then again why do you care about brand names in the form of IPs, but then not care about brand names when it comes to their devs? Seems a bit hypocritical.

> but then not care about brand names when it comes to their devs
I do. I just don't mind different takes.
I liked both Shattered memories and Max Payne 3 and they weren't exactly done by the original devs.

The worst part of this bait is that its an actual opinion held by some people. I've actually met people that believe this. It sickens me. Imagine actually liking a game with so much backtracking, and where the last half of the fucking game is an escort mission. The first three are all far better games.

it's an actual opinion held by me, not bait.

shttered memories is horrible, you cant die in half of the game so all of the tension is gone, the chase secuences are stupid, the gimick to get diferent ending doesnt make sense because you always want to examine everything that you can.

and jesus christ, origins....... jesus fucking christ, if there is a silent hill game that makes me the most mad is this one, wanting to give you a precuel when the developers have no fucking clue what silent hill is about.

>and where the last half of the fucking game is an escort mission.
I already hated escorting Maria in 2. SH4 is scaring me before I've even played it.

Not that user but Origins' sins are largely offset by at least playing like a budget SH2 with a couple tweaks. That honestly puts it on par with 4 for me, the story might be shit but at least it plays like a SH should for the most part.

>inb4 liking SH for the gameplay

I agree with you on max payne 3

some of the non canon soilent hills play better than the originals, but as you said
> liking SH for the gameplay

I never understood why people are shitting so much on Origins.

>I already hated escorting Maria in 2.
Probably shouldn't play 4 then. It has some great ideas but man, are its bad ones BAD.

>Imagine actually liking a game with so much backtracking, and where the last half of the fucking game is an escort mission. The first three are all far better games.
It's funny because this almost applies completely to RE4 and RE4 is also better than the first three games in its series

It's good, and it holds up, especially the atmosphere.

I never did get around to playing HC or DP - never found them cheap enough to want to take the plunge - but I have heard that if nothing else, HC plays better than other entries.

>dark corridors and jumpscares: the game
yeah i'm thinking no

2 > 3 > 1 > 4

those western ones looked like how the silent hill movie made me feel...all trying to recast characters from the originals in ways that didn't make sense given the original story--like "hey you guys remember Pyramid Head?" Well Now he's back and more terrifying than everr

Anyone got a mega link for this?

1 > 3 > 2 > 4

2 would be higher than 3 if it wasn't the easiest of the lot.

3 > 4 > 2 > 1 >>>>>>> the rest
4 is great game one hell of an experience anyone who shits on it is a faggot who doesn't comprehend the art of Survival Horror (the half part of escorting is fitting for game from such a genre)

I don't remember AoM having jumpscares. The sequel Cry of Fear had them. AoM actually had good enemy design though, and some of the levels were pretty spooky.

Why do you think escort missions are so fitting for horror games?

thats exactly what they are
like how in homecoming they show the piramind head when he has no reason to ever exist outside of silent hill, they just did it because it became the " mascot " of the franchise

> because annoying is scary

>park Eileen at entry point
>clear out the area
>go back and get her after you're done

The ghosts and room mechanics were much better implemented IMO.

I get the idea - having to protect not only yourself but an escort in the face of adversity in a horror game increases the tension of the situation. The problem, however, is that such a mechanic walks a fine line between "tense" and "annoying", and after a while people stop feeling for the escort and wish they could just leave the dead weight to rot.

your list is literally the opposite of any smart person's list. your opinions make me so angry!!!

because it's realistic, you struggle to overcome many obstacles to protect the person you love

back to plebbit, both for your shit taste and writing

first time playing
1 > 2 > 3 > 4
on repeat playthroughs
2 > 3 > 1 > 4

>on repeat playthroughs
i think 1 benefits the most from replaying. it's an entirely different experience when you know about alessa from the beginning.

it never troubled me (except when Walter start chasing you it became a burden)
all in all it offered a challenge unlike SH2 (literally a walk in the park)
SH3 is the best game ever, deal with it

Attached: 545645645.png (600x886, 583K)

>SH3 is the best game ever, deal with it
you're only saying that because you're a waifufag

i like Eileen more but SH3 still a superior game imo

Attached: Eileen.jpg (1024x768, 51K)

funny, i'd say the same thing about 3. first time through i was angry and annoyed by heather's complaining because i thought she was a literal how but when the twist was revealed i cared about her

I wish i could get SH4 cheap somewhere for PC, I've heard relatively good things about it and thoroughly enjoyed 1-3 and even homecoming

just pirate it user
nblog.org/pc-games/silent-hill-4-the-room-usa/

I had trouble caring about the twist because the story was all over the place with her in a jarring way. Felt like I never had time to feel anything for what I was seeing of her before she almost changed into a completely different character.

>i'm just a teenage girl afraid of these monsters
>now i'm not afraid and will taunt the monsters
>now i'm alessa and it's time to get serious

same, but SH4 is still the weakest original SH game
