I hope for Doomguy, personally, he seems like a hell of a challenge to make work in a space like Smash. Ryu Hayabusa makes me sleepy and I don't think ninpo and an Izuna Drop are enough to really set him apart from the other ninjas, assuming Black and beyond are used as inspiration. Assuming NES, too much shit from his source-game that could set him apart wouldn't work very well or would be functionally useless in 90% of the game, like wall climbing.
Who cares about console representation, Cloud was never in a Final Fantasy game on a Nintendo console until Theaterhythm. Prior to that he'd only been in via Kingdom Hearts. To say nothing of Joker and Persona Q.

Not like he's been in too many other games either way.

A tiny part of me was still hoping Geno (with Mallow helping in the final smash) could get in as a last DLC. Now that some leakers confirmed it'll be the ninja owned by the big tiddie girls that beat eachother up and play voleyball, all hope has been lost.
I'm pretty sure nothing from SMRPG will ever, ever come back.

If you want Geno to come back in literally anyway, you should probably try getting him in smaller games first like Mario Kart or something

Fighter #5 will probably be announced at the Game Awards, so it would make sense to show a character who appeals to Western audiences there, although we did get Joker there last time so who knows. I’m guessing nobody will know until it gets leaked a week or so in advance, or maybe it will be a complete surprise.
That being said, if we get a bonus fighter, I’m fairly certain it’s Porky, since him, Giygas, Andonuts, Fassad, and the Pigmask Army are all missing from the game.

I wouldn't call them side characters. Geno and Mallow were main characters alongside the other members. A side character would be someone like Toadofsky, Booster or Frogfocius.
In any case, getting the rights from Square to put either one of them in Mario Kart instead of Smash seems like a waste of money.

Waste how? MK sells the same if not more than SSB and presumably under a lower budget.

I just think Smash generates much more hype, money and awareness of the character. When a character who's been dead for a while gets in, in a few years they get revived. Case in point, Mega Man.
Geno being in Mario Kart would do no good to neither party. Characters in Mario Kart are almost tossed aside and don't really hold as much weight.

Plus, new characters in MK don't get huge trailers with cgi and people going nuts when they show up, do they? That honor of 'hype' goes to the modes, the tracks, the items. That's what excites people when expecting a new MK.
