Fighting game characters are bad smash characters

Smash is a movement-based platform fighter. A format such as this allows characters from a wild amount of different backgrounds to use their own unique skillsets or inspiration from their games to combat each other.
The design philosophy behind most fighting game characters simply doesn’t mesh well with this style.
For example, let me compare Mario and Ryu in smash bros. Both of these characters have up-specials involving a jumping uppercut, a neutral special involving a fireball, and a relatively average movement ability. However, Mario also draws from his variety of games to produce moves such as a cape that can reflect projectiles and spin around opponents, a chargeable jet of water useful for gimping, a burst of fire produced from the hand as a side smash.
Meanwhile Ryu can use a spinning kick as a side special, a sideways kick as a side smash, a focus attack (basically just a charged punch with one bit of super armor and some stylistic flair), and a bunch of martial arts moves with little pizzaz.
Both take inspiration from their games, but Ryu’s moves just seem downright uninspired. The format doesn’t do the moves justice.
This dichotomy can be best seen in their taunts. Mario does a pratfall, shows off his good friend Cappy’s transforming skills, and grows before shrinking.
Ryu does a pose, fixes his headband, and points at the opponent.

And let’s not even get in to the “wackier”, more creative picks for smash. Characters like Mr. Game and Watch, Pihrana Plant, Bowser Junior, and Duck Hunt Dog, who reference their games and series of origin throughout their moveset and have their own unique and visually interesting playstyles blow fighting game characters out of the water. This isn’t a fighting game. This is a stupid baby game about smashing people off the stage.
I like fighting games and their characters but Smash is not a fighting game and non-fighting game characters earn more from being in it than fighting game ones.
I’m not saying Terry or any similar character won’t be in I just hope they get put in a game that serves them better instead

Smash only exists because of SNK. It inspired Sakurai to make Smash, believe it or not. I know you only like bing bing wahoo and simple ass platform fighters because you don't have the skills to play real fighting games, but that doesn't mean SNK is inherently bad. You're just an asshurt pleb casual and I'm glad the DLC is hurting you as much as it is.
