I've never played Ape Escape. Is the series any good?

The original is my favorite PS1 game no question. Did not enjoy 2 (controls are not as tight, worlds don't feel as open) and I haven't played the 3rd but heard generally good things.

Only lolifags think this, 3 is pretty cool but I honestly thought the morph gear stuff was kinda gay. I'd say 1 has the best level design and gadgets, I don't know what it is but something just feels off about the sky flyer in 2 and 3.
