These numbers are not an accident. They are a direct result of our culture of intolerance towards the trans community.
I have seen, first hand, how this prejudice leads to trans children killing themselves. A trans girl in my high school killed herself a week before her 17th birthday, and you're lying if you don't think jokes about her being trans aren't what pushed her over the edge. This shit isn't funny. It isn't a joke. It isn't a game.
Not making fun of it is the most sure fire way to keep it a taboo.

And you're lying if you think that those jokes were the only factor in said suicide. I agree that trans lives matter, but all this boiling it down to single point just ignores the underlying issues that lead to insults pushing someone over the edge. I was insulted/bullied basically every day in school, but I haven't killed myself. A vast majority of people were probably bullied pretty extensively at some point in life (and I do mean the actual bullying, in real life, not the internet bullying that 95% of the time, you can simply hit mute/ignore and not have to see) and haven't killed themselves. This kind of issue really needs to be looked at at a much deeper level and all the people screaming about bullies made my friend/sibling kill themselves are really ensuring that doesn't happen.
