There are healers that deal 0 damage (not even casting one Bio as SCH or doing anything when they don't need to heal) and I had a level 70 SMN that didn't cast Bio nor Miasma at all (and of course no Bane, Trisaster etc) until the end of the dungeon when I explicitly told him that he should consider using those after noticing that it was a slog to get there and there were no DOTs on enemies at all.

The dark knight is my favorite of them mainly because its main protective skill or bread and butter even you could say, which is The Blackest Night, is more fun to use than anything other tanks have.

Ammo made the rotation more stable than it actually seemed. Outside of ammo windows it was all RNG yes, but you had to actively check your hotbar for procs.

Using your first combo hit 3x without getting a proc sucks, but constantly getting procs makes you feel like an absolute unit. There was a certain equilibrium to, but now it's just mindless 123 spam.

Blogpost aside. It's hard to do the BLM rotation right under potd and hoh because the enemies die really really quickly. BLM benefits from long fights where don't have to move and actually do shit constantly.
But starting from level 60 onward, on fire phase get into the pattern of doing like 3-4 Fire 4 casts then Fire 1 to reset the timer. Or less depending on movement. And use Sharpcast on Thunder 3 to hold a proc for later so it won't run out mid firephase and to weave in an ogcd.

Enemies in PotD/HoH tend to die so fast that you're lucky if you get hardcasted Fire 3 (Enochian) -> Fire 4 out before your three other pals have already murdered whatever you were targeting. Just use Swiftcast (and in HoH, Triplecast as well) judiciously and try not to get too mad about never getting to hit anything besides the boss at the end. Practice the proper single target & aoe rotations elsewhere, like on dungeon runs or on a dummy. Then move on to doing them in a real fight where you also need to move. You'll get the hang of it.

By 35, you'll either have done Titan or be on the quests to unlock Titan. After that, ARR gets better and the Titan unlock quests become a meme in the community and in the writing (a dialogue option in Shadowbringers mentions how ridiculous it is). You'll still got a fair bit to go, and after you do the final 2.0 dungeon, Praetorium, you'll enter the long haul of around 101 quests in order to get to Heavensward. Be sure to unlock Monk at level 30. While the Monk quests are nothing to write home about, you need to be a monk to get new abilities which will make your class more fun and give you more to do.

It has pretty neat looking gear too. Too bad it never it fucking drops

As a healer, who are your favorite tanks to get in a dungeon?
For me it goes something like this
WAR = DRK > PLD > gap > GNB

WAR can get back like 50% of its own HP every 25sec with Nascent Flash so it's very nice to have them in a dungeon.

DRK get a 25%HP shield every 15sec, they are also incredibly comfy to play with.

PLD can heal themselves but until WAR and DRK its actually a DPS loss for them so it kinda suck, at least HG can make it a bit more smooth.

GNB in comparison is kinda....well, underwhelming?
Camouflage is a good CD for big pulls but it still pale in comparison to WAR and DRK ability to sponge/heal damage

This was my problem.
I was having boatloads of fun drilling through the story while taking breaks to level other classes and proposition guildmates for group stuff on the side.
Once I finished the story, I realized all I had left to do were those side objectives I was doing to take breaks before.
Logging on specifically to level or burn through Eden for the week wasn't engaging on its own, so I just had to drop the game.
At least I'll definitely resub later for a month or two once there's more story content, but all of the good stuff in FFXIV is only good for a first time experience.

If you don't have Augemented Ironworks Gear, upgrade all your equipment as soon as possible in Foundation. The 51-52 equipment is almost an order of magnitude greater than the 49-50 equipment.

The story had its ups and downs, but overall the MSQ and side stories like Hildibrand etc. were the most entertaining part of FFXIV.
Without that there wasn't anything worth logging on for.

A good WAR is the best because you don't really have to worry about healing them too much. They do it for (free). They also tend to be the type to do big pulls just so they can swing their AoE dicks around.

DRK is pretty good because they similarly tend to pull large and do decently in packs, and TBN is nice.

Gunbreaker's okay. They're the most fragile and have pretty lackluster AoE potential, and at least half of the Gunbreakers you get are braindead, but the actual tanks that switched to playing Gunbreaker can do well with it. It still has the most trouble actually handling large pulls but still not enough trouble to make it impossible.

Paladins are in a weird spot because they should be totally fine at handling packs and have phenomenal AoE damage that could easily outpace everybody, including Warrior, but they're the most likely to not pull big. And if they do pull big they're also likely to be the type of fuckers that spam Clemency on themselves when they get to 60%.

It depends on the time of the expansion for DPS. For healers, ALWAYS crit. Heals can't direct hit, but they can critically hit, so it's just better to invest in crit for healers.

Critical hit tends to scale better than direct hit, so critical hit becomes stronger the more of it you have. So, the later into an expansion, critical hit is better. Direct hit is stronger at its base level, though. So, this early in the expansion, direct hit is stronger. But it's also a marginal difference so just go with whatever you feel like.

I'm not a huge number cruncher so I can't give you the specifics, but of course you want to be using all of your useful resources (like Manafont) regardless of whether you're doing single target or group fights, and to me it makes sense to squeeze as many Despairs out of a single Astral phase as possible, given that it's both a lot stronger and faster to cast than a Fire IV. Manafont gives you enough MP to also use another Fire IV for good measure. You could even throw in an Ether for just enough MP for a third Despair.

AoE rotations at lower levels are really variable and explaining optimal cases in every scenario would be too much work for something you'll almost never do especially when a lot of it is judgment based

just cast T4 and flare at 3+ targets until you get umbral hearts, then cast more flare, learning the "correct" rotation for every situation is a waste of your time since you'll almost never use it

No, base classes edging out jobs has only happened in some niche situations largely related to cross-class (since scrapped), and PvP. Classes are a holdover from 1.X where they were first intended as a total replacement for the game's traditional jobs, then were later reworked into upgrading into traditional jobs.

As someone that mods the game: SE has no idea what they're capable of. They have 16 dye channels available each with individual material and glow settings and they only use ~one~

At this point the only thing stopping them is they'd have to hire a guy to rewrite the UI for dyes and they can't be assed to do that.

I know it’ll never happen but all I want is for them to find a way to add secondary due colors on gear moving forward. E.g. every piece of gear has a main due color that changes the bulk of it, and a secondary dye color that changes things like the trim and other minor things. Other mmos have done this and it adds so much to customization

Most of them you'd struggle to link into another job, the only really ready ones would be Sage (Red Mage? Black Mage + White Mage), Summoner = Evoker if you ignore the reversed order of them from FF3, Black Mage = Magus and White Mage = Devout. Hell, Ninja is already an "advanced job", Rogue is Thief.
