Look, as far as I see it, if the rest of the Fighters Pass shits on Western audience and jerks off the Japanese playerbase I won't be surprised. In fact, I predicted this would happen based on the newcomers we got in the base game (Ridley and K Rool were massively popular to North America, the Belmonts are supposedly hugely popular in Europe, etc). Inkling and Isabelle are popular in Japan, but they were also popular everywhere else. Incineshit was a shillmon, so he wasn't directed towards a specific region.

Joker is both a markedly Japanese pick and a character from a game that Sakurai was apparently hugely into during development. Hero is from Dragon Quest, which is so massive in Japan but absolutely no one cares about in the West. Banjo is currently the lone Western-based DLC rep, and probably will be the only one. I assume the only reason he wasn't base game was to help sell the pass here in the West. This SNK character is likely to cater to Japanese audiences, Latin American audiences, and to Sakurai himself, much like Joker, as apparently he was big into KOF back in the day.

The pass is doing just fine at appeasing the huge number of people it was made for. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not doing what it's supposed to.
