you look at it long enough to realize that all the horizontal cars have to go right so the bus can only go left.

Sorry you're not having a good time. I don't know what secret ingredient is missing from your experience that the rest of us are getting, but a vast majority of people playing the game enjoy it.

You'll get used to that after an hour or two.
Don't forget to dodge between attacks if you expect an enemy to try and hit you while you're using the baton. Pretty useful.

Stop dodging and learn how to Perfect Call into Sync.
It's powerful as fuck. Also, get the Parry ability skill and put it on the Legion you use the most and you don't have to dodge anymore, you can do parry instead.

There's actually a ton of defensive options
Perfect call is the obvious one, but perfect dodge is helpful as well, and chain jump is helpful as well, particularly if you're swamped
There's also a parry upgrade

Is this cheese or is this just the only way to play effectively at high difficulty levels? Fighting against normal Noah Prime on standard with lots of revives made me suspect that it just isn't practical to try to take on that boss (or its derivatives) in close quarters if you haven't got an arbitrarily large health pool to soak all the damage up. This makes me think that even more.

Playing an old chapter resets your current chapter progress unless you're in endgame/chapter 12. But you can hop back to the start of the latest chapter you're on at any time from an old chapter.

Nope. Game even ENCOURAGES you to use items by making most if not all items from chests count for that file only. The game doesn't penalize for taking damage either.

Sweet, so basically I just gotta be fast and efficient.

The game is very lenient on item and even revive usage. The thing is, there's no way to *los* rank points, only gain them, and S+ ranks are just reliant on getting above a certain threshold. (Mostly 10k points but contrary to popular belief it depends on the encounter. Some are higher and some are lower.)

Having said that, probably the two biggest sources of rank are not taking damage (instant 5k points) and time bonuses, which decrease really fast as fights drag on. There are even bonuses that are really "penalties", like missing a lot of attacks gets you the pity bonus "Sloppy Striker" for 100 points. If you're using a lot of items you're probably not getting the no damage bonus. So there's no direct penalty, but you're encouraged to play so that you don't need items anyways.

I bet one of the reasons this game's rank system is a lot less strict than previous platinum titles is that this one has a lot of information overload. Enemies can hit you from offscreen in sync attacks, there are bright effects from both you and your legion plus numbers out the ass all over the screen, etc. Doing no damage runs is probably a lot more of a gamble than in a Bayonetta

I know the feeling. It's an issue I have with countering in a lot of games in general. I can get used to the timing, but during the stress of actual battles, I just can't get it right. I just get way too twitchy and impatient.

I have a pretty hard time reading the enemy attacks a lot of the time, I know there's supposed to be a tell like in automata but it isn't anywhere near as noticeable to me. Not that I'm good at timing shit in general.

Does anyone know if you can turn off the hair color change when your persona is out or can you not do that?

The red flash is pretty clear, but the exact timing is very different from enemy to enemy. Compared to Automata, the timing is more precise and not as easily spamable, so to say.

Probably, yeah, because the 5k no damage bonus would be that much more valuable. Honestly, I don't think the rank system is perfect, but it's refreshing to play a ranked action game that doesn't feel like it demands perfection and a very particular playstyle to achieve good results.

Bayo also values not taking damage but you can finish a battle in 20 seconds with no damage in that game and still get a gold bc you killed everything with one weave and no dodge offset, killing your combo bonus.

In Chapter 3 - Missing: Go to the hidden hermit shop (behind a holographic wall about 2/3 of the way down the alley leading to the malfunctioning robot arm) and open the chest. The first time it'll be a rare code or something but after that it'll be a leaky battery that can sell for 10k a pop.

Unfortunately no but three weapon forms is enough because you have a lot of variation with the Legions and their link attacks.
Also the Gladius hits like a freight train.

Gun, Baton, and Sword create a good trinity.

It's kinda hard to tell which approach is better because while not needing a no damage run means you can be even more aggressive than usual, it also means that the player won't be encouraged to learn the enemy patterns and what they're capable of.
Besides, while pulling some smoking sick stylish combos looks impressive as all hell, so does pulling off a tight parry or a tight dodge, so it's really difficult to say which approach works better for games like these.

Now that I'm taking a look at the files in the PC, the game tells you in which part of the file you missed objectives and I think you can replay them again and keep the best results?

A character action game should be enrooted in the concept of being proactive, not reactive.
It should be about using the tools you have to keep enemies controlled via your attacks as well as you can, more than waiting around to get a specific dodge or parry to set the enemy into a "fuck me" mode, which is very much so what Bayo2 felt like it was built around.

sync attacks are fairly simple, on the whole.
The fun part is managing using your chain fully.

It might feel weird but for me the bumper button attacks clicked once sync attacks got unlocked. Most people prefer to use preset C for controls since it feels more closer to other platinum action games. I stuck with the default controls because later on when you are doing Legion Special Actions it’s nice to still have access to the R-stick. Especially if you want to pull off special action counters.

I say it should be both, the player should be both proactive and reactive, but then you get to that conundrum where the game basically becomes a glorified turn-based game where the player just whacks on the enemy until he either whiffs the combo or the enemy reaches its damage threshold and attacks.
Sure, in a game like this the player is always on his toes but the flow of combat becomes super predictable.
So what can be done to avoid this kind of stuff from happening?

Be black, and have low IQ retards who mindlessly follow hate mobs back you up when you smashed the shit out of your childs toy then blaming it had shit build quality.
Also, wasting your talent on gross fetish art instead of sweet vanilla.

What best keeps it from being that predictable is keeping the enemy variance in the fights themselves active enough.
Having arenas that kinda fuck with your tools and how one's typically fight shit. Compare all the plain ass rooms that most of the astral plane has to shit like DMC3 elevator where you have to keep it clear of enemies fast enough to keep moving up.

You have Cerberus, Gigapede, and Agni & Rudra where it's all about handling optimization of hitting as much of a multi-hit boss as possible while handing multiple sources of attacks (while the boss is decently immobile).
Doppleganger, Heart of Leviathan, and Nevan all play with the concept of the boss having some kind of active protection you have to take care of in order to wail on them for a duration of time.

Have you beaten the game yet? If not you have to, to get the last part I think.

How can you fight enemies in the air more easily? It's boring to just shoot them with Arrow, and Arrow attacks too slowly on it's own, using it's rush attack puts it out of commission for a few moments which is annoying too and the enemies can just move out of the way anyway. Shooting them with your gun works alright; as well as charged shots. And trying to send in the Legions then jumping to them in the air for midair melee is annoying too because they tend to just move out of the way. And a lot of the skill moves don't hit mid air enemies.

Basically, these cunts are just annoying no matter what and there really isn't a good way to deal with them. What to do?

Equip the auto-chain skill and use it in mid-air.
The baton attacks fast and if you swap into the gladius mid-air you get a free hit.
Arms Legion can grab and pull enemies to you as well as slam them into the ground.

Beast and sword work well, since ranged attacks don't do shit and the gladius is too slow.
Its speed over all else and thankfully they have piss poor health.

They do but they aren't really worth it over getting raw damage or more Legion up-time.
Those new Legion moves tend to fairly weak or something that you aren't gonna be using very often since they don't lead into sync combos.

Yoseph showing up reminded them of who they should be focusing their aggression towards.

Doing it wrong. Regular dodge does indeed have iframes in the first half of the cartwheel. Thing is, if the enemy is still attacking, your second dodge needs to be away from them, not towards them.

Please tell me Peace is the worst chapter in the game. That whole chapter felt like a slideshow whenever I wasn't in the Astral Plane and the only sidequest I genuinely enjoyed was Billy's. To be fair the game starts you off in babby mode and you don't get rankings right off the bat, you need to go into the menu to change the difficulty, at least as far as I know.

IIRC the game tells you that you’re in babby mode after you beat file 1 and gives you the option right there to change it. And even then, just 5 minutes of googling would show that there IS a ranking system.

To beat jin, run aroumd him and bait him into an attack, then hold the attack bitton to charge a swipe, this is the best way i've found to beat him. Make sure you click the stick in again to go back to the normal walking pace or you'll do a sliding kick.

That review was complaining about lack of style meter too. They want a rank on screen during fight.

90% sure it's rush. I never see arm far away from me so I've gotta assume it always comes back with something when I rush it.

They should’ve given you axe a lot earlier. By that late in the game, you already have your playstyle figured out and a bunch of gene codes invested in your main legions. On the surface, the axe legion isn’t super amazing or anything, so why invest in something else when you already have a winning strategy?

It's in file 3 during your first visit in the astral plane in that file. You ride the first double swith wall up to find a unique path.

Honestly that's my biggest complaint for every fucking game in this genre. I've played every dmc, bayonetta and I always get annoyed with how rigid my play style becomes. It takes time practicing to actually be able to utilize your whole toolkit and I think that this game gives you a lot of options. all the abilities, command attacks different links... I'm really enjoying this game. Is it worth going back and trying wonderful 101 if I have a hacked wiiu? I've seen a lot of people drawing comparisons to that game because of this one.

It's kind of like asking why not just play Bayo with guns on your hands and feet and never switch weapons. There's nothing wrong with the playstyle if it works and you enjoy it.

It's good, It is pretty basic at first but it really opens up. upgrading your characters weapon gives you pause attacks, charge attacks and input command attacks.
each legion has different sync attacks
each legion cab equip abilities (like gear with stat boosts or abilities)b
each legion also has a skill tree where it learns new abilities that you can either select from a menu or input a command (like back forward attack) to do something special
It really isn't extremely challenging but some of the bosses will take your revives.
Theres not too much too much diversity in the environments,
the soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in years
the characters are all really likeable for the most part.
Honestly the combat is kind of like dmc if the whole game was really fun V gameplay. I liked V but this is a broader more refined version of that.

It's been reportedly selling out everywhere. I assume that most retailers just didn't order very much stock, but it's still a good sign. I did some napkin math in my head while I was looking around stores in my area for a copy and I'm estimating between 100k - 500k physical copies sold in the first week.

I have the same issue as the guy you replied to. The beast legion covers literally every base (Attack, defense, mobility, long range, etc) and I see no reason to ever use anything else (excluding when you’re forced to use another legion like cutting an energy line or hit something super far away)

Some user told me if it does well the director said he would plan it to be a trilogy. I like the story and the gameplay has a lot of potential so I've got my fingers crossed.

everyone has their favourites, unless an enemy is a zippy bastard I'll generally turn him into mulch with the glaive and axe legion sync attacks.

try to use your legion to block the dickhead on the stairs I guess? other than that you just have to go good at a god aweful gyro balance game, your balance is better while standing still so stop moving if it's looking wonky.

Moving Beast itself is really slow, which can make it hard to get it behind enemies.

The sync attack thing is fair, but the non floating thing only matters out of combat

when a chimera shield cat requires you to use it, I find it of fuck all use in real combat, it's just for puzzles and the like.

It's usually not practical outside of cutting energy sources, but it works well on slow enemies like slimes and gorillas.

I think it's mostly keeping track of how many fancy moves you pull off, sync attacks and so on.

I think a big factor is time, another is just going through as many abilities as possible (different legions, sync attacks) I think they were aiming to reward varied gameplay and speedy completion without punishing you for mistakes so much. Makes me feel like they were trying to encourage lots of experimentation via trial and error

In harder fights you pull dumb shit to win (multi binds, backstabs, tether counters, etc.). You get rewarded for those.

Is chainjumping absolitely broken for anyone else? I can aim for the dead center of a platform, and yet I still somehow fall off.
Also the whole "your left pinky touched that wall have fun in the bottomless pit" thing is a bit annoying.

Your rank is simply the total of the point bonuses list in the results. Generally need 10,000 points for S+. It's possible to S+ with fast time and no damage taken, but it's much easier to focusing on stacking up different bonuses. Cycle through all your weapons and legions, do syncs with every legion, use their skills, use the command input attacks, chain bind and multi-bind, headshot, perfect call, etc.

This. I always go for a backstab, perfect call, multi bind (or just a bind), and the use of all my legions. It makes S+ much much easier to achieve.

sometimes it can be wonky but you'll get the hang of it. Especially in levels where the platforms are bobbing up and down slightly.
There's a little blue symbol under the legion that you should be able to aim for.

same, also using items actually gives points so don't hoard if you're looking for a little boost for rank.

Obviously there's a blue symbol you dipshit, how could someone not notice it? Is big, contrasts against most of the game, glows, and is directly under the thing you control when chainjumping.

Just hide behind shit and have the legion wrap them up. If they're looking in your direction and you can't tether them just throw a can. The sound makes them check it out.

I hate forced stealth sections in non-stealth games, but the game actually handles it well.

Pretty much. Do what feels good in the moment if you can't decide.

It's dodging with existent iframes and a follow-up attack. Only downside is you can't spam the B button as often to "perfect dodge"

There's one directly behond you once you start the sneaking mission with Olive, and there's another one in that maze before getting to the Axe legion fight. You're on your own with the Axe legion one, I think ot's location somehow relates to that one guy talking about treasure but idk, you're just gonna have to feel walls until you get lucky.
