No. I’ve not trusted Capcom to make a decent fighting game in fucking years. Their fighting game division is completely beyond saving until it get some new people or older actual developers to take over.
Even if they had that replicating Darkstalkers’ weird and cartoony movement in 3D would be very difficult and with the best spriters they have gone now I don’t see it being an easy task. There’s also the fact that SFV’s models are hit and miss. When they work they work, but many of them don’t.

I’ve just accepted that I’m not getting a new game and vowed to love the ones I have for the rest of my life.

Expansion just came out. Cards in it are bonkers, new Legendary Juri card is so good that everybody playing a Purple deck should have it and it makes Morrigan the 2nd best Hero after Rathalos IMO.

Finally decided that Chun was a lost cause; I thought Dante was the weakest Hero but he has some weird gimmicks he can run. Chun is too damn honest. Moved over to Charge Shot X; the support for Mono-Green just filling up their own board constantly is nice and synergizes well with him. Lots of Green cards with Credo on them that look cool and there's a Layer card with full-blown brown underboob.

The RE Engine was made for "cinematic" experiences though, Capcom has never said it would be a multi-purpose engine like the MT Frameworks was. So far there's no indication it will be used for games of theirs that relied on semi-realistic settings like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, I can see more brands that followed the same design philosophy such as Onimusha, Dead Rising, Monster Hunter also going under the RE Engine, but not anime-eque stuff like Street Fighter and Darkstalkers.

Problem is, Darkstalkers character are notorious for being difficult to translate to 3D due to how insane their sprites get in their different moves. I can't imagine something like Pyron working with 3D polygonal models, and i think Capcom knows this as well wich is why we haven't seen a new Darkstalkers so far.

If there's any studios that could probably give Darkstalkers any justice this day and age they're Lab Zero or ArcSys, more the former than the latter.

2D animation is expensive as fuck, and since they're loaded developers, people would dog on them if they didn't make anything that didn't look and animate better than 3rd Strike or KOFXIII.

Not only that, but 2D by it's nature, doesn't allow devs to fill the game with billions of expensive DLC costumes... well, they can, but that would mean having to reanimate multiple character sprites from scratch with a new costume, meaning too much time and money to spend, whereas in 3D they can just make a new model or modify an already existing one, and apply it to the character's rig.

ArcSys 3D style focuses heavily on keyframes, with only occasional smears (and only some games get them; Xrd did but I don't believe DBFZ or Granblue have any). It looks very nice but it wouldn't line up well with Darkstalkers. Maybe the 2020 GG has some new visual tech though.

Of the many obstacles that stand in the way of a new Darkstalkers, one I feel doesn't get brought up enough is lack of roster expansion potential. In Street Fighter you've got dozens and dozens of characters to pull from and revive for each installment, and in Marvel VS Capcom the possibilities are practically endless. But in Darkstalkers, you only have the original 18, and you'd have to include them right off the bat to have a roster sie anyone would buy. And where do you go from there? Every game these days is expected to have several seasons of additional characters after the initial release. They'd have to start making new characters, something which has been pretty hit and miss in SF4 and SF5.

I have a question, does Darkstalkers have angels in its universe? Because if not Capcom could easily pull a Street Fighter Cinematic Universe and have DarkStalkers be set in the same universe as DMC, and pull characters from that series. Yeah, they'd all look human, which is kinda shitty considering the fighter's characer designs, but I think DMC chars would fit in like a glove. Like the Dante, Vergil, and Nero, and demons like Nevan, as well as Arkhan, Credo and Agnus in their demon form.

You could bring back and flesh out the old character concepts they had like Adult Anita, D and Barbara. Crossover DLC from Tessa, Son Son, Amingo, Ruby Heart and Firebrand would be pretty sweet, you could even add more Warzard/Red Earth characters like Hydron. And for new characters the series still doesn't have a proper ghost or a Boogey-man, and you could tackle other classic horror characters like the Headless Horseman or Jekyll and Hyde who could play like a stance character.

The problem would be like another user said that who know if the new characters would stack up to the original cast.

I'm not sure how big ArcSys really is, but they'll keep pumping out anime fighters till the heat death of the universe. I think Dragonball Fighterz did well enough that it'll get a sequel or a spiritual successor of some sort (possibly another shonen franchise?)

As far as 2D sprites go, I think the big deal is that it's more expensive to get fluid HD graphics for hand drawn sprites. It is possible that as computers develop more advanced learning algorithms tweening well improve to the point that humans only need to make a small number of key frames and the computer will dynamically tween images well enough to fit into HD standards. Consider the leaps and bounds made in flash animation since its inception and consider how it may further develop as higher processing power becomes more and more available.

In terms of animation and interesting character designs yeah. Lab Zero are good at that much, even if Skullgirls is a bad retarded hybrid of Marvel and CVS2.

Ask someone who doesnt play fighting games if they have heard of it, I can guarantee theyve heard of street fighter though, thats why it keeps getting made and not Darkstalkers or any other fighting games under their thumb. I could see something akin to the Thing, albeit not as gory looking, but capturing the general idea of some horrid fusion of parts and assimilated entities. Probably even having a similar transformation to Double from the Skullgirls game. Some attacks could probably even reference the dog-part of the Thing's final form that pops out of the chest for certain ranged attacks, while a combo could have its head extend out to bite opponents.
