There's like 20 years worth of games and animations that use it. Even if 99% of it is shit, that leaves an awful lot of decent stuff. It's not like new things being made makes the old ones disappear or not be worth playing.

To be fair, some of the Flash game portals are trying that. Newgrounds is working on a more secure emulator, and I think Kongregate has been porting a lot of the old games over to be HTML5 compatible (or something like that, I don't remember the details).

flash is deprecated. if you still wanna make games for it there's air/animate and if you wanna play old content there's the standalone player or just run flash on some old airgapped pc you have lying unless you actually throw away your old pc parts for whatever reason. flash has been attacked and compromised so many times over the years its worthless to keep it updated when you can just apply the knowledge learned of its vulnerabilities into something much more secure.

Yeah, there's also Flashpoint, as mentioned, which has a lot of games on it, but it's not very elegant, as the games just have one genre tag assigned to them and nothing else, which is no substitute for a large array of user-voted ones, and all of the other trappings of the game sites, like ratings and comments and what have you (like badges if you're one of those people). I like that whole feeling of a community.

It required a buggy, proprietary, security nightmare of a runtime to actually play anything. Also it killed phone batteries instantly, so the iPhone just outright refused it. Adobe also found out they weren't making any money from it to offset the cost of constantly fixing bugs in their spaghetti code. Users wanted it dead because it was abused for ads, supercookies, "analytics", etc and required on a lot of pages just to watch a video. I don't think Twitch ditched Flash until just a year or two ago.

It would be great to have a simple FOSS standard for vector graphics and scripting to replace it. Animated SVG looks promising, I guess.

I can't say I've done any research on the matter, but I imagine for most people it's for a lack of trying. It's up to each site to decide what to do. I'm sure many of the sites that just knick games from other places will go down, but there are some sites like Newgrounds who are keeping Flash alive by creating their own software that can support it.

Anyone here experienced enough with adobe animate that can tell me how to move from AS3 to html5 documents? Are there any features that are lost? Last time I checked, published html5 animations were exported as multiple files, so how does one even publish that online? It was so easy to upload a single swf file before.

I would love to try find out how this works myself but when I try export things, I get nothing but a white background. I take it my really old pirated version of adobe animate is to blame.

HTML/Flash only applied to maps, and they started replacing them with flash exclusive maps in the viacom era. Not to mention all the games are flash.

They're now trying to convert everything to html5, going to be entertaining.

Viacom should have made Neopets a true MMORPG, or at least ran on the side a la ZOMG! from Gaia. Yes they have NeoQuest I & II and no those do not count.
