I love axe wielders, armored lords, and red emperors. Edelgard happens to be all three, and I find her to be an overall solid anti-villain character. Her supports are good, her more dorky aspects are endearing, and the fact that she's the primary plot mover is a nice change of pace for most female lord characters.

Are you sure? I just finished it (2nd story ive beaten so far) and it is full of "i know we can do it if we work together!"and other heroic protag shit. The ending in particular is very typical of japanese heros ("humans dont need gods!", final dragon villain). That plus all the heroic music and a "good" ending really make me wonder what the devs were intending for. Its not like the writing for three houses is THAT great.

WHY IS EDELGARD ON THE SAME LINE AS THE LIONS LINE

Its alright. Really easy for fire emblem. While i thought all the outside of mission stuff was too much and got boring after a while, I liked the character custimization and class building once i got the hang of it.

I do miss the weapons triangle though. Different weapon types only really affected the class you wanted to obtain. I liked the extra layer of thought when sending out units to attack.

When the games challenging enough though its a ton of fun. The missions that stood out to me were always the harder ones.

Fliers aren't very good, they get shit on in the battalion department by being the only limited movement type, but they're too good in the growth department that it doesn't matter yet.

There's some gameplay talk but ultimately I don't think this is a gameplay entry focused in the series. This is my first real FE experience (playing 7 for a little bit doesn't count) and I was able to beat it on Hard without TOO much trouble and making lots of mistakes when building my units.

It is literally because of the opening scene of the game when Byleth throws himself in front of her to take the axe meant for her. It was the first time in her entire life someone protected her. After that point she becomes obsessed with Byleth kinda like her last words in the Golden Deer path. They make it very clear in her path she is in love with Byleth. Including the scene after the timeskip where everyone humilates her because they tell Byleth about her obession with Byleth. That and the scene where Byleth finds out she is making portraits of her professor in secret.

You can do the same with anything using a brave weapon. It's not like having high str and a brave axe isn't enough to one round a boss. Especially if you're just warping the unit. All the matters is the unit has high enough str, and sometimes crit

Why are there so many same romance ending slides that Byleth can't be part of?

I mean Hubert/Ferdinand A support is literally the gayest support in the game. The amount of blushing is mindblowing and their ending slide together basically flat out says they are banging.

There is also Dorothea/Petra where Dorothea basically becomes the known lover of Petra and literally uses the word love to describe their relationship. Byleth can't marry Petra as a girl. Not fair.

on the subject of just "being good", wyvern lord has +4 str and axefaire, giving it an effective +9 off an axe, which heavily outshines every other class/weapon pairing but warmaster (which beats it by a mere 1 point off axe/fist). it also gets +4 spd, which is only beaten by falcon knight (another flier, by +1), and assassin (again, only by +1). ability wise, canto is insanely good, and avo +10 as a secondary is great, especially since you have the option of pairing with alert stance+ off the flying skill line and avoid-tanking works well in general in this game, especially vs enemy archers who are SUPPOSED to be wyvern lord's counters, lol. growth rates are also phenomenal, boasting 15 str (highest in the game tied with warrior and war master) and 10 speed (whereas horse-mounted units have NEGATIVE speed growths; the other flying unit, Falcon Knight has 20 speed, highest in the game tied with assassin and swordmaster); HP, res and def growths are equivalent to other master classes. don't forget 8 fucking move and flying movement type in a game that loves spamming ground-impassable buildings, swamp, and forest tiles.

unless they start spamming close counter in lunatic (and even then...) WL is indisputably the best class in the game. but is it necessary? no. this game is easy as fuck regardless of what you do. but it is ridiculous and is an oversight in balance. remember brave weapons work on wyvern lords too.

You forgot warmaster has +20 crit. That's a good 1/5 of the time if you had crit in the first place. Besides Warp, Stride, and a dancer exists. You can even do 2 Warps if you wanted

I’d absolutely kill for a new route that has you using all 3 groups at once in a manner similar to Radiant Dawn Part 3. Fighting the units you created would be so fun, and a route like that would be massive. Or maybe it would be more like part 4 of RD where they each have a different goal to work toward and then come together at the end.

it's literally just part of the complete package. if we're talking about 1 rounding WL's are best because there are literally a couple maps that can't be 1 rounded without the extra move + fly. if we're talking about full rout ten WL's are still the best because of their insane flexibility, move and survivability.

yeah, felix is a solid unit with a lot of flexibility.

mortal savant felix is a weaker build since you spend time on reason for very little gain. frankly i'd rather go mortal savant on dorothea, though; gremory dorothea is a trap (white magic use x2 is bleh, you waste a ton of time pumping faith since she caps out at physic at C, and you miss out on black tomefaire); warlock dorothea is OK, because you get the black tomefaire and black magic uses x2 for double meteor, and probably her optimal build. but i prefer the mortal savant route for the extra move, equivalent damage warlock (which, again, is superior to gremory), and the hexblade lulz (stronger than spells, one shots basically everything even on hard).
