Mechanically they're passable but design and personality wise they're a downgrade in every single way from the villains in the first three games

mgs4 is a good game when they let you play it, it needs more gameplay and the problem isn't even too many cutscenes, it's too much repetition in the cutscenes. how many times do they explain the war economy throughout the game?

My guess is they really wanted MGS to just die. Fucking shame, really. It had some of my favorite things like CQC, Threat ring and enemies could actually smell the smoke from your cigar. I still replay that game but I do my best to skip through/ignore most of the bullshit.

The plot of these games have always been off the walls, so I really couldn't give less of a shit about the stupid twists 4 had. My biggest issue is how great it felt to play, but really only having the the first two acts to experiment with it. The metal gear series in general has bad controls, bad enemy AI, and bad camera. Mgs 5 is the only mgs i understand. And rather the first one i actually enjoyed.

It's funny, because the only way MGS 4 would even have a chance to be better than MGS V is if it cribbed from it and stopped halfway through. The last two thirds of MGS 4 are utter garbage.

4's gameplay is pretty damn good honestly, too bad the only way to enjoy it is in the online.

Yeah. I like MGS4 personally. Its a fun experience with interactive levels and a great toolkit to be the best snake you wanna be.

It benefits from not being open world. Lots of unique handmade sequences with new mechanics and some of the weirdest tone in the series. Fun/10

Mgs online was always a treat but MGO really captured something from the base game. Plenty of dense levels too. MGO 2 has more "gamey" level design in my opinion, too simple.
