Realistically how bad is it? Is a playthrough possible or is it still that bad?
Starbound
it needs to be remade into a 3d mmo
Why a 3d mmo? That sounds like a terrible idea.
It fails to meet expectations and people with a low tolerance for unrefined gameplay will not like it, even after modding in content and adjustments. I find some merits of the game fun, but the base game by itself I could never justify to anybody.
You know how most games update and add new content? They did the exact opposite.
You can't explain why it's bad without comparing it to Terraria.
It's not fun like Terraria.
It's slow, grindy, combat sucks, planets are a pain to explore and rarely yield anything too interesting, it's unoptimized as fuck and chugs on machines it has no right chugging on, and to top it all off it's still an unstable, buggy mess nowhere near what we were promised when it was released and it never gets any fucking updates.
Not even mods can save this fucking trash.
it was also unoptomized in many areas.
Like, if I can run the witcher 3 at 60fps setady in its big city but not the starbound hub its clearly the games fault.
Have you ever been ass raped? Playing shitbound is actually less fun than being ass raped.
>bad
It's just outstripped by any and all of its competition basically. Even jobber sandboxes like Portal Knights provide tighter progression and a better feel of reward for your work, while Starbound ends up feeling like treading water in almost every branch of progression.
Even when modding, you can mod other games for better effect. Starbound is just too empty and vast; why the fuck do I care about a procedural universe if there's never much more motivation to visit more than a few planets of it? And when you finally go exploring interplanetary, you just find it's all the same stuff on each planet. Some planets are gated by things like temperature and environmental effects, but it's not like there's something unique to get there; you just end up on different coloured planets plucking ores for upgrades that don't really feel substantial. Just numbers going up and now you can go to cold planets. Which are just as empty as any other planet.
It can be nice with friends but chances are modding Terraria or Minecraft will provide better multiplayer still.
>planets are a pain to explore
>walk for ten minutes
>find building
>raid building, usually taking like two minutes or so
>sometimes you find a good fun dungeon once in a blue moon
>finsih raiding it, walk for another ten fucking minutes to find nothing
>rinse and repeat
God damn this could have been so fun how did they fuck this up so damn hard?
Isn’t the way that rain is done in Starbound is that every separate raindrop is a unique entity, instead of the logical thing like a filter over the screen with altered spawns?
make sure you get frackin universe and frackin races.
yes, it's done that way because rain causes water to build up
While those are nice, they end up mostly feeling like they just added more uninteresting shit to pass by.
>still no Timelord race or TARDIS mod
I'm surprised, usually Whofags are on top of shit like this. Fuck, we got a fully functioning Irken race mod somehow before updates broke the damn thing, but no Timelords.
I don't even want them, I'm just surprised no one was on top of this shit.
mods fix alot off issues, but not all of them. the story isn't a good reason to play this game as most of the fun is playing it with friends.
if you can find some Yea Forums gamers to play with then you can have a good time, but solo story is sad and full of so much wasted potential. 5/10 game, 6/10 with mods
>modding Terraria
Why? The game is adequately filled with content by itself without any shred of doubt.
Starbound has little to no thematic consistency to biomes other than the major and minor block materials and planet-type restricted blueprints. The monsters are the same and even the races of npcs are fundamentally the same in terms of the weapon choices they use against you.
Compare to terraria where there is no randomization of monsters and multiple biomes in a single world each with unique music and monsters to that biome.
Starbound literally would have been better if they took their monster sections and created 30-50 or so monsters.
They did eventually start using unique monsters with their own animations and abilities, but it's too little too late.
...Pardon me if I’m incorrect, but doesn’t Terraria do that too?
What is up with these threads? They come on an almost daily basis and it's always the same canned opening question and promotional image.
Fairly blatant shills if you ask me.
No, Terraria has it as a screen filter.
Tiyu is a little rat fuck who spent his entire life lying and trying to be a smart ass to avoid accepting responsibility.
Well now he has a failed game to clamor to, reminding him what a loser he is hahaha
>Shill
>when they're asking if the game stopped being shit yet
>"Hey is the game good yet? Anyone feel like it's good to buy now?"
>"Haha remember this game Yea Forums? It's so bad! Let's talk about it!"
Can confirm Finn "Tiy" Brice is an absolute con-man who's scammed his way to the top, starting with his claim that he was one of the "terraria devs" when all he did was contribute some ripped sprites from final fantasy 2. He has no actual talent aside from manipulating people
It's only really fun if you're willing to ignore all the issues for the novelty of terraria in space but it's more of a looter than a building/crafting game. I enjoyed it but after you beat the main story (which is shit to be honest) there's almost no replayability.
they were too ambitious
they promised us infinite terraria in space and instead we got what might as well be a terraria browser game clone
Perfectly playable. Shit, even enjoyable. It's just shallow as fuck, riddled with bad design choices, a useless story and an actually empty but gigantic world with nothing to do in it.
isn't that the game where the devs actually removed content in an update?
Yes, because they couldn't figure out faction AI for monsters and humanoids for fighting alongside.
Terrible game. Play Terraria
Biomes are pointless and progression is terrible.
Terrible boring combat, one dimensional linear story and progression. Lackluster crafting and itemization. Random enemies that all behave the same instead of thematic handcrafted mobs like terraria. Shit bosses. Shit planets with like 3 biomes maybe and worthless underground. No reason to build a base. No reason to have a home planet. Literally all dungeons and structures are 100% the same every single time. You replace loot 4 minutes after walking to the next planet due to how shitty stats are. Energy is fucking garbage and boring and makes ranged a chore. Little to no reason to interact with NPC's, house NPC's. Literally everything about this game is garbage and worse than Terraria.
What would you require gameplay wise, to be invested enough to build a base on a planet?
How about automation, longer more complex crafting parts, planetside spaceship wharfs where you construct your ships,. fun and in depth colony building with functional useful npc's?
