Love them for being tear-bait but the gameplay is usually mediocre. Newest one tried to streamline some of the shit but other people complain about the changes that I thought were improvements.
I played the first one on release and thought it was just a little sad that my pikachu friend was outcasted from his village because of me but when I replayed it recently, I cried almost as much as I did when I played Explorers of Sky. Is there something about getting older that makes media hit your emotions harder?

I'm going to give Gates a try. I thought Super was best in terms of gameplay Im super casual as a player so if there are a million little things wrong with it, they probably went over my head but the story was pretty mediocre to me. SPOILERS The twist of who the bad guy was lame and the motivations for the bads was also lame. Losing my partner didn't even make me tear up and getting him back felt like an afterthought. I was just surprised they'd take your partner away like that in a kids game

In the first mystery dungeon game they kind of describe how the character "Feels" like they belong where they are, hinted at to be kind of like they are feeling the pokemon in question's instincts.
Probably makes it easy for them to shut out their worries and focus on whats important - that, and the fact that you usually accept the reality presented to you.

Fucking hell, if you want your damn permadeath if losing all your shit wasn't bad enough, than there are plenty of dungeons across all the game that start you off at lvl1 with no carryovers with all your progress disapearing when you fail to reach the end

I honestly want to see Spike Chunsoft collab with Level-5 on the next Mystery Dungeon. Imagine Mystery Dungeon but it's also Fantasy Life. You got a ton of extra stuff you can grind out like cooking or making items with stuff you'd end up finding in dungeons that could be useful to use in the dungeons.
