Well, Mekk-Knight Invoked is still basically the same list from about a year ago as well, it wasn't that good back then and it's still not particularly good. You can see this because the deck has received 0 hits on the banlist. Out of those 3 decks, Thunder Dragon is the only one that gets continuously innovated upon, because it's a complex combo deck and new options are being explored constantly.

It is not the same game, you are using the cards to play a different game.
Goat format isn't even close to being the same as Triangle format to the point of the two being completely different games with very different priorities and things to pay attention to. And very different "rules".

To give a concrete example, in Goat format you don't want to commit too many cards from your hand to the field, because boardwipes are devastating. In Triangle format having cards in your hand is a sure way to allow your opponent to resolve Trishula, which an instant win most of the time.

It's really hard to explain and I'm not entirely sure, but basically, the effect doesn't target, because the effect is a "send" effect. The "send" keyword usually implies that the player is being affected by the effect, not any card on the field.
Also, I'm pretty sure it's also related to how it pops itself as an effect and then sends the other card, so it never affects one specific card, making it naturally non-targeting.

I'm not 100% sure which one it is, but both sound plausible. The ruling is definitely correct, though.

Another explanation would be that the effect has an implicit condition on the send, i.e. Magnarokket needs to actually get destroyed to get the send effect. Decks based around equips are quite rare in yugioh. I can only think of Evil Eye which is more control based, and Vylons which are a lot more complicated and have been heavily powercrept sadly.

As someone who basically dropped YGO halfway through GX and came back post-DSOD, those 2 are my favorite extra deck mechanics by a good margin. Fusion got fixed up to be pretty good, too. Still not crazy about Synchros or Pends but it's less "NEW THING BAD REEEEEE" and more that the mechanics just don't really speak to me. I like how simple Xyz and Links are.

It can only be played if you draw it for turn. It has no ability if you add it to your hand, or if you open with it, making it a dead card.

by the time it came out in the TCG, the game was already broken. 2003 meta decks were ludicrous decks of broken cards and hand destruction effects. The magical era of 'la jinn beatdown' or 'summoned skull beat' only existed for like a month and a half.

See, judai is almost excusable, because he explicitly had a 40 card deck and showed off around 90 cards through the series, meaning he HAD to have tweaked his deck through the series.

yugioh really isn't that hard once you realize how fucking xenophobic most modern decks are to the point where all you really have to do is memorize what the key cards in an archetype are and what they do. also knowing what generic staple cards do as well.
