The 5th character

>nintendo picks another jap rep for 4th slot
>obviously biased towards jap characters
>fans are begging for indie rep
>no fucking way in hell is it shantae with that small of an audience
>undertale comes out in japan
>internet fucking rampant with sans memes
>nintendo tries to kill 2 birds with one stone appeasing burgers and indiefags

I'd hate it, but shit user. I think character 5 is undertale

Smash would only allow A-Lister indies
He's in.

Upvoted.

solid theory but i believe it'd be frisk rather than sans.
i don't think this would be the character for them to break their "main character first" pattern on, and the only time sans actually fights could be represented way more faithfully as a final smash or assist trophy

I would hate it not even because I dont care about this game, but mostly because there are way more deserving indie reps that actually had more impact to game development than just being a winner in the popularity contest. That being said, UT over quote from cave story is bullshit.

this is my problem with most "indie choices" they are literally just "I'm popular"

Hollow Knight, Undertale, Shovel Knight

Whereas Quote Shantae and Reimu have actually existed more than 5 years.

I think character 5 is him

At least Shovel knight was a game that revived the dead platform genre and opened a door to other 8bit inspired platformers with hard difficult. It's not just "I am popular". Narrative and character driven games have been around forever already with RPG maker games, hell, even toby himself admited he took inspiration from OFF, it's just a meme friendly and popular game with trendy pop culture that will age like milk in the next years. It's not something that had a meaningful impact in the scenario of game development.

It's just unfair that smash never get any indie rep and after millions of years when they decide to pick one they waste it that way.

>actually thinking boomer Nintendo would even consider some side character out of some Burgerland indie game that got released 5 years ago
>not the Queen of Indie that has been going for 20+ and is actually from Glorious Nippon to appease their traditionalist overlords
D E L U S I O N A L

>fans are begging for indie rep
fuck no they're not

Does he have a move where he can piss on any character that's up on curry?

>shantae
>shovel knight

>fans are begging for indie rep
No greater lie has ever been spoken.

>shantae
>shovel knight

Face it Sanstae fags, if we're getting an indie rep you'd better believe it's gonna be the poster child of the entire indie scene. The indie scene wouldn't be what it is today without Cave Story

Quote has done shit in years, he's worthless value.

You have a point, but I don't think Nintendo cares about him anymore.

the only good thing about cave story is curly porn

He has an equally good chance as Sans, who has been in exactly 1 game and 1 demo for a game that won't be released for another 7 years (according to the creator)

Did Cave Story really do all this stuff it gets credit for?

Lets face it out of all the indies that have had support, Shantae is like the only one to have a stable series and future.

Well her and Reimu

>unfair
Stop typing like a women

>Touhou
>boomer
It got popular in 2007

I don't think Nintendo gives a shit about the future as much as the past.

Cave Story was a huge inspiration to hundreds of indie developers. It was the first indie game that made people realize "Holy shit, one man really can make a game rivaling that of AAA retro titles all on their own". When it came out back in 2004 it was considered the best indie game of all time, as most others back then were shitty flash games. The only other thing that comes close is Touhou, but that was never well known or that popular in the west.

Sakurai does. He stated a series future is a part of what influences his choices.

If that's the case then Reimu's in

nah Shantae appeals to the larger US demographic.

>implying banjo has a future

Another Indie pulled that off several years before Cave Story existed, all while maintaining a solid fanbase to this day.

Did you even read my post? Touhou wasn't anywhere near as well known as it is today back in 2004 when Cave Story came out. And Cave Story was way more influential to the western indie scene than Touhou

The problem is that Touhou wasn't a very good in game in terms of quality, neither in a popular game genre (despite being a huge influence inside it, but gameplay aside, everything screams amateurish). Also you are forgetting Touhou didn't caused impact in the west for indies as much CV did back then.

How would they faithfully represent frisk as a character in smash? The whole point of undertale is that you don't have to fight so fighting is extremely simple. I wouldn't mind undertale content in smash but I don't see a character working.
