Okay am I fucking retarded, just beat beast legion and then it pits me in a fight against some speedy chimeras shortly after but one had the invincibility buff that a smaller chimer would give him without one actually being there. I was trapped with a chimera I couldn't kill so I just turned the game off and came into a thread to make this post. Is there something I missed or did my game bug out. I did literally every possible action with all my legions so far to try and make him vulnerable and nothing worked, I think I just got soft locked somehow.

No I mean I tried EVERYTHING, every possible thing to find a link to sever or something that could just break it off him. There was no little chimera, it's not even that I killed it and the invincibility stayed one never spawned but it went into the invincible state anyway and got stuck like that.

The buried and flying shield chimeras are pretty annoying and are the hardest to see. If it's one underground, dig it up with your beast legion and kill it before it buries itself again. If it's in the air, launch a legion up there then chain jump to it and have the two of you beat it up. Either way you won't see them immediately unless you have your iris turned on.

I brought it because I wanted to play it but it is still nice to discuss a new release with Yea Forums

After finishing file 2, i can give my opinon on the game so far!

ASTRAL CHAIN is without a doubt going to be the hardest game to get perfect scores on that platinum has ever made.
I got all platinums in bayonetta and got platinum trophy, 100% vanquish and got Platinum trophy,but this game well definitely be harder based on how the combat works.

Combat consist of maintaning your legion and your main chracter
Your legion does majority of your heavy damage so you have to pay attention to it and recall and de-summon you legion constantly to keep it safe.

Your MC is your life line and also needs to be protected at all times cause getting your MC hit or killed will lower your score.

You need your legions to dish out big damage and end battles quickly to get good times all while keep your MC damage free.
Fighintg multiple enemies in this game can be tough as shit.
Losing your legion leaves you vulnearble without good damage and focus to much on your legion leaves your MC open to attacks.

This is Platinums best combat by far next to Vanquish.
Im on file 3 playing on PT standard, and will continue to take my time with this awesome game play.

Its looking like astral chain and Vanquish will be my favorite 2 platinum games hands down.

Firstly taking damage does not affect your score as I've gotten walloped and walked away with an S+ for pulling of plenty of sync attacks and finishing the fight quick. Second don't let your legion fight alone you're a team and doing damage with your weapons adds to your legions meter to keep it out longer. Third now that you're onto file 03 and you're properly synced with your Legion the protagonist does much more respectable damage and you shouldn't skip out on upgrading your baton as well. The real combat starts now user

Holy shit the difficulty rise in file 4. Went from consistently getting S+ to getting C rank on the entire file. The fist legion fight was annoying with the sticky floor, and the homunculus fight was easy but it still only gave me a B rank.

Assuming you havent finished it yet, the ratio of combat goes up as you get further in, though file 8 is a weird massive dip and file 10 despite being mostly combat does have one obvious mandatory non-combat section.

File 08 fucking sucked but rest was great. Really like the hub structure of the game and platinum really improved their level design in this game.

It's pretty fun, even though the first two chapters are pretty much just tutorials with a purposefully gimped moveset. Once you get your full arsenal and are able to grasp its depths, the gameplay is amazing. Couple that with a good story and amazing soundtrack and it's just a great time. Half the chapters are non-combat investigations and general beat cop/helping the populace, and I fucking love those segments. It's a great police simulator

The thing that really sells it for me is all the little side quest bullshit. The ice cream one is fun, the quiz in chapter 2 is fun but even the more innocuous shit like using your dog to sniff out stuff or playing target practice with arrow legion is really cute and makes the world feel more alive.
The lappy quest is pure joy too, seeing everyone's different response to him

The occasional platforming is prettu fun, specially hen you have to use the crystals, but it's still a little janky. Sometimes the tip of your foot hits something ans the jump doesn't work, or you aim for the center of a small platform and ends up falling anyway.

ranking doesn't weigh time or damage-avoidance as heavily as other Platinum games
Instead, it weighs the individual attacks you do more. So doing tons of chain jumps, chain counters, sync attacks, perfect zandatsu, blade-mode-counters, etc
Look through the list of things that give you points at the end of a section and you'll see what you're actually getting judged on

You can't make them not look like shit. Anything but the default colour looks terrible in every scene with your sibling, and the styles are straight up awful. The female face also looks ayy lmao tier.

getting S+ means getting at least 10k social credit points so just do as many different techs as possible like binding, using each legion or spamming synch attacks
not getting hit awards points too but you shouldn't focus on that
don't be scared of using items because not using them merely awards you with 500 points

There's no rhyme or reason to scoring in this game.
Then again, I'm not sure why do I even bother with standard difficulty since most platinum games end up getting unbearably tedious for me towards the end.

the only thing that's tedious is the last boss and its only tedious until you learn that the game is forcing you to use certain legions for certain phases without telling you.

Switch Legions and use their sync attacks.

The things you have to keep in mind are chaining and using all your weapons/legions

There's an extra bonus for getting multiple enemies chained at once (auto bind is super good for this)

Once you know what the bonuses are you can shoot for S ranks consistently. I agree I kinda dislike the ranking system, kinda feels restrictive

The scoring system favors longer fights, since the more sync attacks you do and more times you switch legions, the more points you will accumulate, and longer fights give more opportunities to do this.

I didn't reall find the last boss tedious, the sorta first "phase" of the last boss sequence was obviously annoying because it wasnt combat but the actual boss once you get to it is great. By that point in the game you should already be comfortable with what legion to use in what situation and the switching basically happens naturally. I feel like the instant kill could have used a slightly longer telegraph though.

Subjective but I think it's arrow legion. felt pretty useless to me. My friend says Arrow and Arm were his MVP and the rest were useless so idk. For me Arrow and Sword ended up getting used the least (though obviously still used every fight). My main use for arrow was just slowing time and sniping the last three hits off a boss healthbar.

I think the "fixed camera" option in the options fixes that. Not sure about that though.

Go to the far off building relative to where you enter from. Move the legion around the vents and onto where the chest is. Stand as far back as possible and try to leap over the vent. Or you can apparently leap onto the vent and leap again from there.

Large Groups of enemies just feel like a cluster fuck to fight and the bright red environments they put you in at times make it hard to see enemy windups/attack indicators like they have in other platinum games. A lot of problems with a lot of games is they focus too heavily on one defensive option. Dark Souls games, while being piss poor action games overall since they're more RPG focused, end up getting worse overtime on paper, since they basically got rid of blocking as a defensive option in favor of just dodge. Pressing one button when an attack is coming isnt really as good a test of skill as having multiple defensive options and needing to pick the correct one for the situation. This is something Astral Chain does okay, but not great. W101 did this very well.

Nope. And expecting the player to dodge multiple hits before safely initiating their dodge counter instead of just magically stunning a boss at the start of its attack because you simply avoided the first hit is not too much to ask.

W101 is also much less of a visual clusterfuck compared to Astral Chain and enemies had clearer and better wind ups, tells, and audio cues, which is funny considering you're technically controlling 100 characters instead of just 2
